None of these decisions are in Dan's hands, or we'd be staying status quo. Someone, either Stricklin or someone threatening HIS job, indicated the changes have to be made. The timing is what it has to be at this point. Two coaches who are running out of contract are easy cuts, they throw the public a bone, and give the indication changes are starting.
Not hiring replacements, and simply promoting from within is basic management 101. You do NOT want to start new contracts with anyone at this point, regardless of who will be your HC next year. It's cheaper, and can't do any worse than where we are for 3 weak games we likely could have lost anyways. Promoting green staff (C-Rob) into these positions is a 'thank you' to them, letting them cut their teeth a bit and start building that resume, showing other schools if they are worth a gamble or not; as they are most likely NOT going to be kept in these positions next year at UF, regardless of who will be the HC. A promotion like Pasqualoni is just filling gaps with experience until a new staff is hired.
Focusing on Dan, it makes no sense to fire him right now. I get the adage 'if something must be done, it must be done now' and letting a cancer linger is not productive. But the bigger picture says to make the right moves at the right time, not wholesale with 3 games left and setting the program adrift while everyone watches it burn down. The biggest counter to firing him is WHO can we replace him with that is available NOW? Nobody. Any good coach worth a lick is still coaching - they (or their agents) can talk privately, but they aren't going to come here until the season is over. Keeping him gives a chance to hold the team and recruiting a bit longer, until your repleacement is freed up from his current gig and can step in. Dan can totally give up and mail it in (worse than he's done recently) and fully damage his future with any other schools, or do the right thing to execute his duties until relieved. Hell, even Butters landed at CMU, and even Chump landed another HC job. UF may be waiting out the next step down in Dan's buyout, but I think this has more to do with a lack of someone to fill those shoes just yet.
I believe Dan is a dead man walking, and he will not return. I don't think that was Stricklin's decision, either. To be clear, I have no faith in Stricklin doing the right thing, or making good decisions. I think the school needs to replace him as well, though I don't know if those that make that decision have arrived at it yet. I trust those persons have instructed Stricklin to cut TG and Hev now, and use this next month to get Dan's replacement lined up (as they handed Stricklin a list of priority targets).
I have no inside connection, this is all just my gut feel, but that's how I see this. Cuts now to signal the change, holding Dan until the right time to cut him. Fingers crossed those pulling the strings have Stricklin on that list of 'required changes' as well, but time will tell.
