I've been around a whole bunch of you people going back 14 years now, and I've been a Gator fan for 32 years now. I will admit I'm extremely sensitive about the "spoiled fan" narrative that started after Spurrier left for the NFL. Some asshat in the media started it ("look how those demanding fans ran off Spurrier!"), and it has hung around ever since, with the urban legend continually growing that Spurrier, Zook, Meyer etc. actually SAID that's why they left or were ousted. Yet, no one can provide the existence of these supposed quotes.

The premise is that Gator fans are more demanding than all the other fan bases, that they are unfairly unrealistic, impatient, and brutal to coaches. It is complete and total poppycock. Go to any of the FBS message boards, I don't care how crappy the school is, and you're going to find demanding, unrealistic fans. It's the name of the game, it's how it works - EVERYWHERE.

Whenever I see this narrative spread I react in a negative fashion. It's a reflex.
Was it Mike Bianchi? That S.O.B. hates all things Florida Gators especially our trophy case and the fans.

Dooley. Always the shill and room temperature IQ. The original useful idiot.
The origin of the "arrogant, demanding, self-deluded Gator Fan" schtick goes back to an SI hack named Dan Jenkins - during the late 6os, if I recall correctly. The SOB said something like "the Gators have the attitude of Notre Dame with the win-loss record of Wake Forrest." I've disliked the bum ever since. Also, after getting run off by UF, the Zooker expressed his gratitude for the opportunity of a lifetime by saying something like "UF acts like they invented CFB." Phukk him too. And most recently, Pukie F-bomb dusted off the old Zookie zinger and spoke as if he had made it up himself. Double phukk that Golem-looking, Bama butt-diving little scheister, and the horse he rode up on too.

We do, of course, have our fair share of drunks, wingnuts and verbal bomb-throwers. But Gator Nation doesn't poison ancient live-oak trees, or murder other schools' fans or their live mascots on a fairly regular basis, or rush the field at the drop of a hat. In comparison to some within our own conference, we are models of comity and decorum. And even if we weren't, the gator-hater narrative spinners could still pucker up and kiss my FLORIDA GATOR ass at their first opportunity. Thank you.

Exactly.

And if we want to be serious for a moment about things, the gator fanbase as a whole is actually much more permissive and apologetic for abject failure and embarrassment than most other upper tier programs and certainly the most lenient of all true blue bloods.

Would Alabama put up with this crap? Would Ohio State? Not even Michigan would allow for terrible recruiting, vacations during bowl games, horrific embarrassing losses, and losing records. Yet, even to this very day, there is a sizable portion of the fanbase that thinks mullen just "needs more time, needs the new facility, needs a few more classes, etc". The excuses still abound, we even have some excusers still on this board and we are by far and away the most extreme of the entire base. What is most interesting is what the blue bloods that have much higher demanding fan bases have in common.... Wins and successful coaches. It's almost as if winning is due to a standard set and demanded by the fanbase... nah, thats just crazy talk.

If you are one of these, "its the fan's fault" fools then you can EABODs. The truth is it's YOUR fault we are in this mess if it's anyone besides the idiot AD. Most of this fanbase including the big money boosters have become comfortable with mediocrity and that is why we have it.

You're spot on. Again, as I mentioned yesterday, these media people seem to forget that at its core, these are debates between themselves and the fans/boosters. And like any debate, someone is right and someone is wrong. So of the three previous head coaches that we pushed out with our arrogance and unrealistic expectations, which ones have gone on to have success in the same capacity elsewhere? The answer is zero. So it shouldn't be portrayed in any other light other than UF fans/boosters seem to get it right, and further, tend to know long before the national media does. And it certainly isn't due to lack of effort. When Zook was having his 2007 season, it was almost all anyone could talk about. He was "better than UF fans gave him credit for", "would've won a NC in 2006 also", etc. A few years later he's done and hasn't sniffed a head coaching job since. Same with WM. He "learned from his mistakes", "the Gators were too impatient", etc. He isn't even a coordinator at the moment. And JM is 17-13 at CMU. Congrats.

Too often we're left facing the ire of these morons without anyone pointing out the dismal record they have in making these calls. And it's as if the realities of Zook, WM and JM are irrelevant or never happened. We've been right before, and we're right again.

Bingo. That is the litmus test. And its fanbase 3, media and apologizers a big fat fuching ZERO.

Again, and for the record, anyone who's ever uttered an "it's the fan's fault" comment can swallow an entire ISO container of dcks.

Russell argues with callers just to argue.

Caller: Mullen needs to go, he can't recruit, he's lost the team, leaves talented players on the bench, his special teams are horrible, he hangs on to bad assistant coaches too long, often times he's unprepared and plays down to the competition.

Russell: HOW DO YOU KNOW HE'S LOST THE TEAM! YOU'RE NOT IN THE LOCKER ROOM! I'M NOT IN THE LOCKER ROOM. YOU HAVE NO PROOF HE'S LOST THE TEAM. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS, I'M HANGING UP.

This is a Dead-on impression of Russell's shows. Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one that hears it this way. He is so angry all the time. Why even do your show? Give up the post game call in show to someone that wants to do it. Russell never gives you any good info, he's not entertaining at all and he just argues with all his callers. I will say that it's fun to listen to when we lose because he gets so angry at anybody questioning the coaches or challenging his opinion. There was a running joke for awhile where people would call in and have basically a normal call until the hit him with "I want to see more Tyler Murphy"! With the Chappelle show Charlie Murphy joke voice. He would get so angry. We should bring that back.
