I ain't saying Stoops is old, but...

He sat behind Jesus in the third grade
Pre-ordered the first ever KJ version of the Bible and...
his SSN is .. 1.
And yet, he's nine years younger than Saban and only a few months older than Orgeron.

He is, though, a helluva lot older than everyone else we've heard who is associated with the opening.

Well, Kiffin has LOST every damn big game he's ever played in, including this season. I guess that's still experience though.

Beat Arkansas
Beat Tennessee
Beat LSU
Beat A&M

Probably should have beaten Auburn.

More on Napier from the SW Louisianan guys ( who are trying to sell him as the second coming).

He's a big "Family" guy. So family and job security are big with him.
Fiercely loyal to players. They have a little QB controversy themselves and he's playing the sr guy who he is more "comfortable" with. Supposedly they had Stetson Bennet recruited but wouldn't give him a shot against the starter. When asked point blank if he will play talent over seniority they said TBD.

On the recruiting trail he likes to make recruits "comfortable". When asked if he's a closer they repeated that he likes to make the recruits feel "comfortable". Man that sounds like Mullens approach to recruiting.

Napier sounds like Mullen with more running plays.

I kinda think his last two times he has got it right

Let's see:

1. Kiffin was 40-20 in the last two jobs including 2 transition season which one can take either way. 35-21 at his prior jobs. (Not counting 5-15 in the NFL)

2. Scoring offense rank last two jobs, 21st, 14th, 12th, 49th and 42nd.

3. Total yards offense rank last two jobs, 6th, 3rd, 21st, 13th, and 9th.

4. Passing yards offense rank last two jobs, 21st, 7th, 29th, 52nd, and 76th.

5. Rushing yards offense rank last two jobs, 11th, 24th, 50th, 14th, and 7th.

So Kiffin has been better on the field in his last two college jobs. Kiffin's offense ala Napier was more run oriented at FAU. Kiffin's offense was more run oriented at FAU and more passing oriented his first year at Mississippi. Somewhat worrisome is that Kiffin's total yards offense is generally higher ranked than his scoring offense.

Kiffin is also coaching the SEC West now so....

Would we consider Cristobal or is he headed to the U

He'd be insane to leave Oregon for CG. Not saying he won't but it would be a giant mistake. I also don't think they have anywhere near the money to even attract him. Oregon has Nike behind them. The canes have a guy in prison and like $350 or so in their checking account until Friday.

edit: ****, next Friday.

There are no home run candidates. Maybe a triple. Stoops would be as close to a home run as we could get, and even then I’m not sure if he’s up to the task. I feel stupid even talking about the guy. He’s so 2002.

My defense of Napier is that after his transition class he has lead his conference in recruiting every year, and has largely dominated the conference. He's won his division every year, the whole conference last year, looks well positioned to repeat, and has gone 26-5 in conference with 3 of those 5 losses from his first year. The year before Napier they were 4-4 in conference, and 9th in recruiting.

So overall I would argue that on paper, Napier looks better than Mullen, including recruiting. But he also looks a lot like Norvell.

FWIW I'm not a Napier guy. Just offering my observations. I don't really know how much we should rate his 1st in conference recruiting, other than if he were middle of the pack there we should definitely not want him.

All this Kiffin nut swinging is embarrassing. Strick basically said he wanted to rebuild and have long term stability. Does that fit Kiffin? I seriously doubt it. And those of you that go on about....I just feeeel he's grown so much and he's changed and he's learned not to be Lane. Hey, I like a good redemption story as well as the next person, but turn off the Lifetime Channel fellas.

2020:

Lousiana 31 Iowa State 14
Iowa State 34 Oregon 17

2021:

Ole Miss 27 Liberty 14
Louisiana 42 Liberty 14

Interesting that Napier's team has out performed Cristobal's team and Kiffen's team against common opponents in the last two years given the talent gap between Napier's roster and that of Oregon and Ole Miss.

Accomplishments are one thing. But I think we need to look at the character flaws that have got us in trouble with previous coaches. Chump was an all-in, win-at-any-cost guy but just didn't have the cranium capacity to turn that into success. Butters was in over his head. A small time guy that didn't translate to the big top. And Mullens, who had everything going for him but couldn't overcome his blind spots. Napier sounds like Mullens in that way. The last thing I want to hear about our next coach is that he's fiercely loyal to his assistants. That means he values loyalty over success (like Mullen). As admirable it is to hear that he's a family man I don't want that in my head coach. And I want a killer on the trail. Yeah maybe his folksy "comfortable" recruiting style works on 2 and 3*s on southwest Louisiana but that sounds too much like Mullens style.
Hard pass on Napier.
