Look at Bobby Bowden. Total country boy who hadn't really done anything, but talk to a bunch of his ex-players and they all said the same thing...Bobby made that connection with not only the players, but parents and grandmas fell in love with him and his folksy ways and that lead the 'SEMENoles' to a ton of Top 5 teams and recruiting classes.

So I'd take a Coach O as a D Coordinator or some recruiting role in a heartbeat. Maybe this Napier dude has that "it" and can monetize it with top recruits.

Apparently you don't know how Bowden actually got all those top 5 classes...

I think some of you are afraid of dying before we will compete for another championship. You want that feeling, you miss the adrenaline rush of the Spurrier and Urbs eras. And sure, you know the football program is schit right now and you know it needs totally revamping. And there are multiple reasons for that because the landscape since our glory days has completely changed. But, you don't care, you want it now. You think you've suffered enough and you're willing to worship at the altar of Lane Kiffin to possibly get that feeling again. How can you look at yourselves in the mirror? Guys who I have admired here as posters,.. formerly voices of reason, are acting like giddy schoolgirls over the Kiff. I think the word "handsome" was even typed in a thread. I get it, Kiff's kinda a character...and been a colorful guy with an interesting story. You like to think of yourselves that way. You don't want to be "Slingblade", the kids might make fun of you.
I don't think our AD is thinking like that.
That being said, if they hire him, ...hell yeah, I'll support him. He'll be a Gator. Just don't think it's happening.

the nostalgia of the good 'ole days of Spur Dog running up the score and making wise cracks at UT and FSU has infiltrated our brains and I won't apologize for it. The comparisons are there, down to the visor, and I speak for myself when I say I JUST WANT TO WIN AGAIN and Kiffin is our quickest ticket there IMO.

Well I got my early Christmas present and that was Dip$hit Dan being fired. He should take that $12 million he is getting and donate it to Trask or he would have never gotten it in the first place. Maybe, just maybe, we will have HOPE moving forward with the next hire.

I'm sure he is busy typing out a couple of bad reviews on his favorite 5 star restaurant at the moment hoping to get his next meal free.

All we can ask is that whoever the next HC is, that they bust their arse and earn their money. Be relentless on the recruiting trail, hold the UAA's feet to the fire constantly to improve the football program in anyway possible year after year, and don't be a jackarse at the podium.

You guys crack me up with the redneck and good ol boy jokes. You're ok with failing as long as we hire a suit and tie guy who cleans up well, acts like he is the smartest guy in the room and is able to speak properly corporate bull$hit lies to your face about the football program?
If you are from that crowd, take a look at college football right now and look who is at the top.

You could throw in Day at Ohio State and Riley at Oklahoma but I wouldn't consider them your typical Southern gentleman. I don't care if we have a coach that has a third arm growing out of his forehead and speaks Mandarin. He doesn't have to be like me or relatable to me. Just land top 3-5 recruiting classes and dominate our rivals. Everything else will take care of itself and I gurantee you the fan base will like him.

This is the most I've tuned in since the loss to Kentucky. I want the Gators to but if whoever we hire turns out to be another dud, I'll just take a long break until it's time for the next guy.

What's your take and what's the talk down there on Napier?

I hear LSU really wants Riley. Their AD holds this very close to the vest. I think he wants Jimbo Fisher...he came from TAMU. And they are talking $$$$$. Joe Brady has also been talked about.
And I forgot Aranda at Baylor...Former LSU DC...If they call...He'll take it.

I heard about Coach O being canned weeks before it was announced. The AD was fed up with O's personal issues. Much never came out publicly and it was nasty.

If you run a good program, Louisiana has enough talent to be a top 10 team with a shot at NC every few years. And they don't hold the players to the same standard UF does. Even Les Miles won here.

All I hear about Napier is he is heading to UF...Bob Stoops would be a nice get but I doubt he goes back to coaching. Napier is all Steve Russell is saying.

He's done wonders at ULL and that's no easy task. He'd be a good fit at LSU but I think he wants UF.

I think Kiffin goes to the U if they can't land Cristobal

Again I'm a risk taker. I wanted Frost...Mullen was my last choice.

I want the program strategically revamped. We are in 1979 mode as far as I'm concerned. Our brand is starting from scratch. Hire in a CEO. Let him bring in the best OC, the best DC, the best special teams, the best strength guy, the best recruiting coordinator and the best player marketing guy to run that side ... let them bring in their people. Demand results. Herd the cats. Get the funds for the back office and facilities. Re-envision the brand. Sell the brand to the bull gators and fans. Start rebuilding.
