From what they said initially it was due to some recruiting reasons why and the scheduling with that Saturday. I can see that they want the whole day with the visits. A game mixed in would take some of that time. And not to mention we should be the only primetime game Nationwide that night. Could be lots of eyes on it. Already heard lots of commits that are making plans to attend.

Could be great for recruiting and TV...I suspect attendance will low

The in-person attendance would never be as large as any TV audience. I imagine plenty of Gator alumni & fans who would not travel to see this O & B game will be excitedly watching expecting new beginnings. Thursday Night football.! Hurray.! Grow Gators.! Won't this help our NIL status.?

Another reason, which is probably part of the recruiting reason, is its a 4 day and a lot of students will be gone. I think they mentioned wanting a lot of students there and if I remember correctly, Thursday evenings at the start of a 4 day break is a huge party night. So they possibly traded a bunch of old fuddy duddies sitting in the stands on Saturday for a bunch of rowdy college kids starting their 4 day party weekend in the swamp.

Exactly. I don't doubt it (and it's speculation by me) but I would think Gen. Katie (UF Army) would have been a huge part of that decision. They are looking at every way to maximize exposure to media, recruits, etc.

Last I saw it isn’t being broadcast live over any TV networks, just streamed on SECn+, which requires subscription either through a cable or satellite provider of the ESPN+ app.

I’m old and maybe just don’t realize how big that audience can be or the percentage of Gator fans that covers, but I was surprised a live broadcast DIDN’T drive the decision. (Edit: I would be able to watch it live but I’ve got a commitment that evening.)

I’m sure there will be replays on the SECn.

Being an old fart...I had not thought of that.

From an in “insider” at On3:

Do not just pencil in AR as the starter. Miller, at least right now, is a better passer and certainly more accurate. AR will have a tough fight on his hands. It really is 1a and 1b with CDR a distant 3rd.

That's interesting. His personal trainer said there was no way any of the other QBs in the room were any threat to AR15 winning the starting job. Just tooting his pupil's horn to make himself look good maybe?

The fans want AR to win the job. It is clear the staff wants AR to win the job. He is a freak of nature. But, Miller isn’t chopped liver. He came here to start. And, by all reports, he is playing like he wants the job. At the very least, he is making AR work for it.

If Nap's technique is to coach his QB on the sidelines or if AR gets banged up & comes out, what a good deal to have a talented Miller to sub in. Let's count our blessings at the QB position. I'd like to see both on display in Thursnite's game.?? And to see them both shine.

When you say insider, is that a media guy who only gets to watch the first 10-15 minutes of practice before getting kicked out or is it coming from someone who is actually inside the program and at the entire practice? I ask because Danny's comments seem to contradict what the on3 insider is saying.

EDIT: And btw, the 247 guys are saying the same thing about the sloppy passing from AR. But that coming from the warmups against air before the get kicked out of practice.

Yes, I want AR to win it. I would also like to have Miller get some reps as well. Develop and do what we can to keep both. We are in good shape to have 2 good QB's. You're only a twisted ankle, hit, etc from needing a good backup. If AR is to win the job, hope there is a way we can make Miller happy to stay, if in fact he is doing as well as they say.

I still think it’s a risky move given how much it’s dependent on the students and how much enthusiasm there was for it among out of towners that won’t be able to make it. Definitely not my preference. But I’ll give him this. It’s a calculated move, much like everything else we’ve seen thus far. There’s logic behind it and a clearly identifiable goal. Still may not work and could backfire, but at least he’s not just going through the motions. I’m good with that.

So far its looking like the student section will be filled with visiting recruits.

When I say insider, this isn’t from the staff. This is a poster with a solid reputation and claims to know someone on the coaching staff or support staff. I list it because it is interesting. But, take it with a grain of salt. That que guy you mentioned came up on the On3 board in a discussion. He has only posted at On3 once and was ignored.

Yeah, scrolled across someone on 247 basically asking the same question I did here and goldkamp said the sloppy throws are consistent throughout the whole practice. I think that que guy brings some truth its just that he sensationalizes it and sunshine pumps that crap out of with his spin.

just saw this too...
