We could be like Miami and Tennesse and go grab 10 3 star players to make you guys happy. Ill take 18 Blue Chippers.
Miami currently has the #3 ranked class with 3 or 4 5 stars. We've got 1 commit ranked in the top 20 from the state of Florida and are leading for zero more. Without Napier pulling something crazy we're looking down the barrel of a 12-15 ranked class.

He better get his shyt together in the portal and finish with a top 3 class next year. If not, we'll all be here arguing again about who the next coach is gonna be a day or so after Halloween in 2024.

Again, I will emphasize that he is working on a budget 3-4 times what Mullen had. Now, Mullen may have been able to have that as well had he cared, so this is no defense of him. But to anyone scoffing the idea that this class may end up somewhere even in the vicinity of one of Mullen’s, the ROI simply isn’t anywhere near what it needs to be to have this type of financial commitment sustained. When you’re paying for a burger, you expect a burger and that’s fine. When you’ve paid for a filet, and get a sirloin, it’s a problem. He absolutely needs to finish this class on a high note.

Tall order in your first full cycle. Next class is looking studly already

And I will repeat what I’ve said. This game moves very quickly. I don’t disagree that 2024 is off to a great start and could be very special. But we’ve seen this before. Especially if the in-field play isn’t good next year, and there’s legit talk about a warm-to-hot seat, that will change. Look, I want Napier to succeed more than I have anyone since Meyer. But again, the Dabo Swinney approach of allowing a coach 4-6 years to figure things out is a rarity, especially at an SEC program. He’s not getting that here in all likelihood. So between the lackluster finish of the season, and a modest uptick in recruiting, plus the purge of players isn’t a good look. Outside of Lagway, we haven’t had a positive moment since the Usce game on Nov 12th. That won’t work. Much of this simply won’t work.

LSU had 19 Blue chippers, UM has 14. both have more 3 stars than we do. Not a "team of studs" like Bama/UGA as the OP mentioned
There are three tiers: Bamma, Leghumpers and Ohio State are tier one (maybe one or two more). Nobody is close. Top of the top. Class should/could get them to a NC. (Top 3-5)

Second tier and third tier will be determined on ESD.

But right now it appears Miami and Lsu are both solid second tier. Second tier meaning should/could compete for conference. Top 6-10.

Third tier: should beat Vandy. Maybe. That's us. Top 11-15.

That's this class after ESD.

Portal? Who knows.

Just to be clear: BN appears to be positioning himself for next year (assuming he is a strategist).

He's kicked the 3 stars and low 4 stars/bad performers to the curb.

He's only going after 4 stars and will not fill out with 3 stars in recruiting. This skews the average and helps the numbers.

So the argument after ESD will be ... but he didn't fill the class with 3 stars. That's why we're out of the top 10.

It's a great stalling strategy. Most fans will buy it 100%. Almost brilliant. (except Mushamp did something similar... remember the almost probation level numbers of scholarship players?)

The next challenge will be fielding a team. Which leads into next year's excuse... but we have no depth and they're young. Great stalling strategy in year 2. 8-4 best case... loss to UGa.

In year 2 recruiting, we may see a complete class. I think he'll have to figure a way to get it in 5-10. There will be grumbling. But he'll win a few against Bamma/Ga and make further in roads into FL highschools.

In year 3, we'll be young, but have quality depth, at every position. We'll win a couple we shouldn't. Still won't compete for the SECE. 9-3 or 10-2. I think UGa is a MUST win. And he'll win it.

Year 3 recruiting, he'll get a top 5 class. We pull most recruits in Fl - FSU and Miami get sloppy seconds.

Year 4 .... we'll compete first the SECE.
Top 3 class.

Year 5 ... we'll compete for the NC.
#1 class.

So, IMO, if he's a brilliant strategist, 23-24 are not going to be fun. Not worth watching if you expect to win. 25 will be fun at times. 26 will be a blast.

(Assuming he gets some coaches that can plan games and make adjustments during games)

It could happen. Holding the wolves at bay AND keeping stakeholder interest and support will be difficult. And fans ARE stakeholders too.

Pfft.

Someone better let Kirby know the reason he's dominating college football right now isn't from all his 5 stars and top 3 recruiting classes. It's from his "4 star averages" and "his number of 3 stars he's got less then Miami". I'm sure he'd much rather have the number 12th ranked class then the number 3 ranked class as long as the 12th ranked class has less 3 stars then #3.

He's definitely not winning because half his class is made up of 3 star players.

Our class average is at a good number but it's also smaller than what we wanted and we didn't fill all of our needs. If we have to reach on a few guys for the February signing day our average is gonna drop. And to be clear, I'd be fine with that.

I'm not as concered about the purge, but right about the fact it feels like the wheels have completely come off for this season. It's nice getting a better quality of player but still finishing second way to much. While we may have overall top to bottom class by average the perception right now is that every single one of our rivals is kicking our *ss right now and unless a miracle happens we finish with a whimper. Wish after 12 years could figure out the answers to this HC and recruiting thing. Is it money, on field product, coaching, Napier not being the guy or big enough name yet. Who knows at this point, but wish we could figure it out because its exhausting constantly just being better than average.

This year we were actually worse than average.
