That’s a great point. If this kid is completely done with high school now, and we have a higher rated commit in this class plus a need for one more QB in the room, he would be perfect to reclassify.
I realize that if he does this it's with the intention of red shirting this fall, but would he even be physically ready for the SEC in what should be his senior HS season in 2024? How many HS seniors are?

Have you seen current our room? We’re one bad tackle away from replacing a guy named Graham with Jack Miller. If a HS senior is willing to come in and give it a shot, I say we let him.

I agree, but he’s not even a Sr yet. I’d rather lose a bunch a games rather than put a kid in who’s not physically ready. Have you ever seen a guy reclassify up two classes?

Fair. And you’re probably right. I’m just thinking he couldn’t be much more of a liability than what I’ve seen in camp.

He is a physically gifted kid already 6'3" 190+ and he is already 17 as a HS sophomore. If he came this fall to acclimate and RS he would be 19 with a lot of college under his belt before he takes a snap. I don't think this is a stretch.

Did not know he was that old. Figured he was like most HS Sophomores and was around 15 or 16

On3 issued an article on UF recruiting spending. Perhaps not surprisingly, we ended up nationally and in the SEC about where you'd expect based on this budget. There is an argument to be made the UF doesn't need as large a budget due to the proximity of talent, but I think that is just wrong when you look at #1 (dwags at triple our entire budget) and #2 (aTm).

So he’s supposed to be really smart with a 5.34 GPA yet he’s a 17 year old sophomore?

Those two facts don’t mesh very well.

FYI, If he is 17 now he is only eligible to play one more year of high school football anyway due to his age.

You may be correct. They modified the age recently due to all the bs with the Covid shutdowns and not sure how it affects this kid. Also, as a homeschooled student I'm not sure the normal progression thru K thru 8 is as structured as enrolled kids. Not really sure as I have never followed homeschooling protocols.

Here is a link on the age change which seemed confusing to me.

Those two facts don’t mesh very well???

He’s a sophomore in terms of what class he’s be in. In reality, he’s already a college freshman with 15 hours of college credit to his name. So yeah, he’s pretty smart.

I never thought I’d apply these words to a HS kid - other than in jest - but he’s basically a red shirt sophomore. Academically he’s a senior and can actually graduate already.

It really isn't that unusual if your kid is showing a lot of potential in grade school competition. I know plenty of dads who held their kid back in 8th grade to let them mature some more before the four year clock started ticking when they entered the 9th grade. Like I said earlier the homeschooled component seems to make this easily plausible.

Yes but in those cases where a kids held back, they are still academically and athletically the same year. The home school component you noted. changes that.
