My point is, you guys may be absolutely right - he may be worse than Treon. I just think we should wait and see.

Mertz is not a horrible runner, he’s just not a dual threat QB. As far as passing, I’m expecting a lesser version of AJ McCarron. He could be better, or worse, but that game manager style

Yes.

Yes. He did have the stronger of the two arms. And yes, it was an awesome play and moment. I was there.

All that said, ironically given the context here, if you watch that play, he under threw the WR(Houston, I think) who had to slow and come back for it.

I was there too. He rainbowed that sucker over there.

HBC was in rare form even for SOS that night. Stallings was the one who blinked late and couldn’t let it all hang out. What a game.

Agreed. I think it's a pretty big stretch to take anything out of small practice clips on air
I think it's more of noticing a trend vs reaching a conclusion.

Granted, the QBs are all throwing against air.

But, why are all of them, consistently, throwing a bit behind the WR? Its not just Mertz. (Brown does it a bit less).

:dunno:

If (and that's a big IF ) they throw behind in the game, they'll be throwing right into the DBs hands.

mcarron, was very accurate, very smart, pre and post snap reads were high IQ level, and put the ball where the reciever had to go get it. mertzenary may move like mccarron, but i havent seen anything justifying further comparison.

I haven't watched a second of cheese wiz football. I've read plenty of articles. Here are the things consistently repeated.

1. The coaching staff set him up to fail with a predictable offense which forced Heis-Mertz into 3rd and long far too often.

2. The WRs he had to throw to were awful.

3. While the cheese wiz line was good at run blocking, they were a disaster in pass blocking. Mertz was under pressure all season long.

4. He always struggled against good defenses.

5. He played very well in the second half of last season with a solid completion percentage and 17 tds.

The question is which Mertz are we getting? The one from the first half of last season (he was awful beyond words) or the one from the second half? He will certainly have more talent than he had at cheese wiz.

What about the other 2 seasons that he was their starter?

The trick call there when we needed it. The double pass on the next. Throwing a slant from the 2 for the go ahead TD. And then frantically telling Eddie Lake to get down after the game sealing pick, plus lamenting afterwards that we hadn’t made an INT all night until then and it was 4th down, so we would’ve been better just batting it down and letting the play end instead. That’s vintage, perfectionist Spurrier in 4 plays and what made him what he is.

If that happens, I'll sign over the deed to Gatorchatter to Sas.

Sober up.

First of all, it’s Kitna’s job to lose. Secondly, I’ve been a loyal poster here for close to a decade and you’re gonna give the deed to that homo so this whole place can be overrun with gay porn? Unreal.
