Was at dinner last week with the parents of a Liberty student. They were quite excited about the football program. Looking forward to their game with Oregon, though I doubt they come out on top. They played some decent teams this season, but no team with the quality OL/DL and general depth and talent of an Oregon.
They played "maybe" two decent teams in Jacksonville State and New Mexico State. Neither of those teams are anything to brag about except for NMS beating the Barn. I think Oregon beats the brakes off of Liberty and sends them packing for the hills...

If they beat Oregon, it'll be like Boise State in that long-ago Fiesta Bowl.

The Playoff Committee did not want to see another repeat of the last time they were in playoff.

With a Star Wars twist.

Not exactly. Though fsu won their conference, it is clear to the committee they are not a top 4 team. Bama could not ascend beyond 8 until teams ahead of them lost. That's just how it was. But they won the SECCG against the #1 ranked team. They simply lost their first game of the season against one of the other playoff teams. No shame in that. What quality win does fsu have? I think the committee could have chosen any 1 loss team over fsu and it would have been correct based on opponents played and record of opponents(SOS). Beyond that, every season, a team that is eventually ranked 1 or 2 or top 4 had to escape a close game with a narrow win. It happens every season. I just don't think fsu was cheated. A victim of their own easy schedule, maybe.

Weird that the power rankings guru site rates Oregon and f$u above UW despite UW having a much stronger schedule than both and beating Oregon twice.

They got trouble with the maths.

Sorry if this has been previously posted…

This was understood to be a reason for the blackball. I recall hearing sometime back about FSU and Clemson trying to leverage their release from the ACC and contractual obligations with the intent to join a “better” conference. I believe it was on the Jeff Cameron show on Tallahassee talk radio.

* Edit - I believe the Herbstreit clip was from during the Willie era.

I really hate you guys for making me do this. I have to bathe in bleach after this post.

The committe has had FSU in the top 4 every week, until now. How does them winning a conference title all of a sudden make it clear to them they're no longer a top 4 team?

The answer is because the committee votes based on the results on the field, until the very last week, when they need to manipulate the rankings in order to get the matchups that they want.

No other program, but Alabama, would jump an undefeated P5 team with 1 loss on their resume. Texas is only a playoff team because the committee had no choice. In order to get Bama in they had to put Texas in. Had Georgia won on Saturday, Texas would not be in the playoffs.

It's not even about who they think the 4 best teams are either, because then Georgia would be in the playoffs. Throughout the entire history of college football, when it comes down to the final vote before the bowl games, it has never been about the results on the field or anyone's opinion on what the top 2 or 4 teams are. It's about what benefits the powers that be the most.

No argument with that ^^^ explanation. The committee wanted one SEC team to legitimize the field.

Throwing records out the window, based on what you saw on the field/your TV, do you think FSU is one of the top 4 teams in the country?
Personally, I watched them play against Clemson, Louisville, and UF. I was not impressed.

DeSantis, speaking at a news conference to detail his proposed $114.4 billion budget for Florida, said he is asking for $1 million to let FSU sue the CFP committee even though the championship will be decided months before a budget is approved. The semifinals are set for Jan. 1, with the championship game to be played Jan. 8.

"My first-grader, my fifth-grader and my preschooler ... they are all 'noles and they are big-time fans and they do the tomahawk chop and they were not happy," DeSantis said. "We are going to set aside $1 million and let the chips fall where they may."

Being awfully glib about spending our tax dollars to make his sons feel better. If FSU wants to sue then tap some of their big donors

What gets missed in all this discussion is that someone was going to pissed. For all the “unprecedented” talk, when was the last time a 1 loss SEC Champion team was left out of the playoff? Answer is never. In fact, it hasn’t even happened in the BCS since 2004 Auburn who was undefeated and no dance. So if they go with the noles instead and a 12-1 Ala team that just beat the #1 two time defending national champs had been left out, you don’t think Tubberville or the other politicians in that state had a valid complaint? Someone had to be fifth. This is such a dumb look for him, which has kind of become the norm.

You're not far off but there is an easier explanation.

The committee simply ranks the teams each week on whatever criteria they choose and as long as a team keeps winning then nobody complains and their ranking is justified. Plus, all the committee has to do, to any naysayers, is to say, "just let the games play out and it'll prove itself out."

And then, when in the last week, when everything hasn't righted itself or proven itself out, THEN they actually have to argue amongst themselves, use data, cuss & discuss, talk about the "eye test", etc in order to come up with an accurate order of 6 teams that can be justified by the written standards.
And IMO, their latest order/ranking makes sense to me.
With 1 exception...UGA is one of the best 4 teams in the Nation and should, at least, be ranked 5 with Noles at 6.

So if there's any ruse going on, it's that they tried hard to keep 2 SEC teams out of it.
And if there's any validity to your point of them being capricious until they finally fall to the almighty dollar, it's proven by allowing TX into the mix over UGA.

Because the "4 best teams" are UGA, Bama, Wash & Mich.
But per their criteria (ie Conf. Champs, SOS, and availability of players...they nailed the final 4.

If the dwags would have won, they would most likely be facing the semi’s in NOLA.

So FSU gets the same opportunity, just in Miami. They should be ecstatic!

I have two FSU grads in our firm that hates my guts right now!
Phuck em. Let them know that the whole nation thinks they are a joke and nobody takes them serious. It's not SEC bias, also let them know their commissioner had the chance before the season to vote for the 12 team playoff this year but voted against it. And don't forget about FSU trying to publicly embarrass the Almost Competivie Conference by forcing their way out. I'm sure the powers that be in the ACC are devastated the crimonoles didn't get in
