Hurricane Helene

Oddly enough, we're planning on going there to see it for the 1st time this coming week. Hope it's still there vs on its 2nd 40 day voyage that'll last a year.
Enjoy! Where are you staying?
I know somebody that has been there recently if you needed suggestions on the area.

This guy does a decent job of covering storms. Ryan Hall Y’all

How did we ever get by before the internet? No texts, no videos, no social media. Just a staticky phone call from a relative or a neighbor knocking on the door to ask if he could siphon your gas tank.

Yep. My 9.5 hours included periods of me driving in the emergency lane along the turnpike(much to the chagrin of others who hadn’t thought of it and were now just too proud to concede when their wives collectively said, “babe, why aren’t we doing what that guy’s doin?”, but I digress). I got off at Yeehaw, after 3 hours and took back roads up through the state. All this after spending 8 hours putting up shutters, hanging from a ladder two floors high while wind was picking up. And I’d just flown in from NY and had been drinking all week and all that night, threw up on the red-eye and ended up not sleeping for roughly 24 hours. One of the most miserable stretches I can ever recall.
Oddly, this is almost exactly like how I was going to get back to Gainesville from Orlando when I had lunch with Crete a few months ago.

What is up with everyone going to see the Ark all of a sudden?!?!?!? First B-52, then a UF/Army friend of mine, now you? I mean, this is like some Pee Wee Herman schit!

But did we die??
We were probably all a little happier.

I discovered a few years ago that Maps and Waze have changed that and you probably wouldn’t have had such empty roads today.
That's true for roads like 19, but I have found that some of those two lane black tops aren't as well used by those apps.

Ivan was at this time, was originally tracking to just north of you.. MIL lived in Spring Hill, so I drove alone, picked her up, brought her here. Then Ivan kept going north instead of turning east. Drove MIL, wife, and kids back to Spring Hill then drove myself back here before Ivan hit. This all happened in about 36 hours.

My brother had returned from Iraq about 2-3 months before Ivan hit, and he was part of the clean up. I had to get clearance to go get him for a family funeral about 2/3 weeks after it hit. Those roads were so dark, until I got into bagdad, FL. He joked about how he left bagdad to go back to another schitty bagdad.

The bad part about this storm is the time it will hit land. It will be dark out and I dont like that.

Be safe everybody. We're getting some bands and wind down here in the West Palm area but it's not too bad.

It's like an offseason uniform thread. I'd say 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ID are all-time classics (sorry 4th) but of those 3, I'd choose the Big Red One. 1st Armored is too busy. 101 Air Mobile, uh Airborne Assualt, and 1st Cav are also tight, very nice. 82nd Airborne and 10th Mountain are clean. Blackhorse dominates that bottom row. Seriously, what's up with the 509th? Looks like a video game character from 1981.

@AlexDaGator, the armored division patches were all the same and very deliberate... the three colors represent the combined arms of armor (yellow), infantry (blue), and artillery (red)

Forgot about Hair Nation. Also good. The worst was when those crossover period songs would be on multiple stations at the same time. Some of the late 90s RHCP would often be on Lithium and 90s simultaneously. Jesus Jones would sometimes catch the 80s, 90s and Lithium.
