That's purely for depth and insurance, of sorts.
It's literally Franks and Trask next year. Allen will and should redshirt. His senior season hasn't been great. LDR goes to the bottom of the pile, if he even stays here.
Sounds familiar. I wonder where I've heard that before :scratchchin:

For the rest of you if you think the RS matters then you're not just stupid you're double gay stupid.

And finally, until the last few weeks neither Franks or Trask were getting any meaningful practice snaps because LDR/AA were 1/2 or 2/1. So neither Franks or Trask WERE FVKCING READY to start. Now, that Franks has been anointed #2 he's had three weeks of meaningful snaps. He's not ready for Alabama but a few more weeks and he can be ready for the bowl game. That's a good thing. Crikey use your frickin' heads you morons.

Yes yes, blow an entire year of eligibility because a guy wasn't ready three weeks ago, but now he's had three whole weeks of practice WITH THE 2'S and suddenly he's ready to start.
:headslap:

You moron ;)

Mac would never do this, he saved these guys all year he won't play them now, gotta save that eligibility for whatever school they transfer too.

If this is true, hilariously stupid. Never waste a RS this late in the year unless you must

I've been with you on 100 percent all year on this . But I don't think it would be right to burn a whole year of eligibility for one pointless bowl game.
This whole redshirt argument is ludicrous. If the guy is any good they go after 3 years. If he isn't any good, he turns out to be like Appleby or Luke, both deserving of reject status. Play these guys. I don't trust Hee Haw to make a good decision though.

So why would Appleby start then?
Yeah, bring on the gunslingers, who gives a rip that they are Frosh. Besides, at this stage they are Sophs.

I don't think bowl games count for this year. I think they fall under the next year's eligibility, no?
I believe so. It was exactly the same thing Spurrier did with Vannez Gooch in the Orange Bowl vs Syracuse. One of the announcers commented on it being a new semester, and not worrying about his redshirt. Gooch easy and FSU transfer.

At this point, trying to figure out what Mac will do, is fruitless.

He confronts conventional GC wisdom every week!

IMHO, do whatever it takes to win.

I think so J. I would have to look at the rule but think you are on to something there. If it is the case, no reason not to.

It's based on when one enrolls in school, Gooch was a weird case because he had enrolled before the bowl game the year before so he became eligible for the bowl game in 99.

I'm not worried about the redshirt situation. I'm concerned Bama will kill Franks or Trask thus reducing our QB depth to rubble for 2017.

I'm reading some of this stuff in disbelief. Law, have you finally gone mental? I expect total nonsense from Sas, but you? We are looking at a long, long, loooong offseason of misery. Discussing how Mac is on the hot seat. Arguments about how few games we're going to win. Debates on whether or not this is going to be the worst recruiting class in the modern history of the school.

And here we have a chance, a small chance, to actually give the Gator Nation some hope. To play a young QB in a game with weeks of preparation. Someone who could give us all a small glimpse into a brighter future, something we haven't seen in years. A great idea. Better late than never, coach.

But no. Half of our fan are clamoring to throw the useless Austin Appleby out there again, probably sending us to yet another bowl game defeat. That will certainly show the recruits we mean business! That will certainly make people want to renew their season tickets! And for what?

A meaningless extra year of eligibility.

I'll repeat myself. A redshirt year counts against a year of eligibility for the NFL draft. If Franks is any good at all, he's leaving after the 2018 season no matter what.

Play the freshman, coach. Don't even think twice. He's taken more than enough snaps to be ready, and will have several more weeks before the ball game. Give the incoming recruits some hope. Give US some hope. Give us something to look forward to in 2017.

Good God. If Franks turns out to be any good, he's just going to leave early for the NFL anyway. Why the hell do we keep worrying about this extra year crap?

We desperately need a spark in the Gator Nation before there are mass suicides. Give us some hope, for the love of God.
This. You can't look that far into the future. Let's find out what these kids have now because it could benefit both the kids and the program. If they suck then don't make their progress a priority in the spring, simple. If they show promise then make them the priority until you see what Jake Allen looks like when he gets here. Frankly I've seen enough of LDR and AA to know where their ceiling is and AA won't be back anyhow. LDR is at best a career back up and needs to be told so. If his feelings get hurt then tell him to shove off. He's not even half the QB Will Grier was and Mac didn't have a problem slamming the door in his face after throwing him under the bus.....

As far as worrying about burning a redshirt on one of these kids that's just plain stupid to think that way. I'd tell both of them to be ready and whomever plays the best will have a leg up in the spring......Mac won't owe either of them anything when he's not coaching here anyhow but he may just save his job and spark the career of one of them. Mac has quite simply put himself in a position WHERE HE MUST take a huge gamble since he and Nuss have put a worse offensive product on the field than Muschamp and Roper did in 2014....
Besides if you really want another redshirt year all you have to do is claim a high ankle sprain or back spasms like I've told you guys in the past :lmao2:

If Appleby starts the bowl game, no one will watch it or travel to see it. We don't need this crap again! The recruits watch these games.

Use up a kid's entire season of eligibility for an exhibition game?
Are you forgetting everything I taught you guys about Medicals....:headslap:A good old fashioned high ankle sprain or back spasms sent in with some creative paperwork solves all those problems....
