With a defense basically the same as ours I'd be hard pressed to believe with that offense we wouldn't be undefeated right now.#78 in total defense

For the record, this board has said multiple times this is UF's worst defense in decades, and they're 47th in total defense, 77th in scoring defense. Gundy's defense this year is about average for him, and it's THAT much worse than ours.

I honestly can't believe that defense is ranked that high. I figured it would have been 110+.#78 in total defense

I wonder why you think it's impossible for some coaches to have better defenses if they move?
The recruiting talent level alone for UF is 17 times (mathematically accurate) than that of OSU. You make it sound like Gundy himself coaches defense

His team, his philosophy. SOS didn't coach the defense, and while we had a few years that weren't stellar, we sure as hell were never in danger of being THAT bad on that side of the ball.

Im not with sas on much but im with him on this. its a double edged sword with gundy. Will he put up some big numbers? Yep, but hes going to be giving them away too. Always has and always will... and it's why hes never won anything legitimate despite having plenty of teams win big games and have top 15 rankings.
The reason offense wins games but defense wins titles is because once or twice a season a great team has a game where their offense, for whatever reason, goes into a funk and just cant score or move the ball well. Sometimes its simply b/c the other team has their number that day, and other times its just because for some random reason, on that night the offense just wasn't clicking. It's those games that determine whether you have a nice 10 win season or win a title, and its the defense in those games that's the determinant. A great defense ensures that while the game might be ugly, a W is achieved and a title berth is still there for the taking. A poor defense ensures an ugly and extremely disappointing loss and a nice bowl game on a night other than the Natty. After over a decade, its pretty clear which type team Gundy presides over.
I'll pass if guys like Frost are available.

He's been there a season and a half. Gundy has been floundering in mediocrity in Stillwater for over a decade.So we agree Campbell can't recruit.

How would you feel about a UF coach who was 2-11 against FSU or UGA and had won exactly one conference championship with no playoff or national title appearances in 13 years?

Florida at Vanderbilt, 1996 NC year, the week after pounding the Puppies 47-7. Go look this game up, and there you have it - the need for a stout defense.
That being said, of course I want an offensive-minded coach. But I don't think Gundy is the guy, and I don't think Stricklin has him high on his list.

First, I'm going to answer the question because I'm not a pussy unlike a certain poster I know. It wouldn't be acceptable.
Second, I'm gonna go slow for you, I apologize in advance that I don't have crayons. My whole premise is that OK State is NOT Florida. They are 2nd class citizens in their own state and 3rd class in their conference. OK State ain't pulling in top 5 classes. Never have, never will. They average 30th at best. Oklahoma averages ~15th. Texas even better. Gundy wins 10+ a year with 30th ranked classes. And still has the #1 ranked scoring offense. What could he do with top 5 ranked classes?
