Ok, since it "appears" to be Chip Kelly....I was around for the Pell years. We were all happy about the winning, upgrade of facilities, recruiting, and then come to find out, he did not do it ethically. This is what worries me about Chip Kelly. Can anyone enlighten me why he got slammed by the NCAA for show cause? They do not hand those out casually...in fact the NCAA is so spineless that for them to issue Show Cause, Kelly had to have done something VERY egregious! Looking forward to hearing what shenanigans he did and why we think he won't change his stripes and bring down (further) our program. I want our program to start winning again, but I also do not want another Pell.
Someone can add or correct if I remembered wrong...but essentially.....

Kelly who did not like to recruit at Oregon (no secret now) hired a recruiting service to find prospects (which is/was legal). This recruiting service decided at some point to pay a couple of players to sign with Oregon (illegal). Instead of cooperating with the NCAA Kelly bolted and I think an assistant got pegged with a little more of the fallout. So Kelly didn't actually do the bad stuff but was in charge. Shouldn't need a recruiting service at FL for sure.

I think the show clause was more severe because Kelly was "in charge" of hiring the recruiting service and he basically said screw you to the NCAA.

So Kelly was in charge and didn't know what his staff was doing??? YIKES!!! If he is to be our CEO and he has shown an indifference for breaking rules and then NOT cooperating, why are we so enthralled with him????
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
We just got rid of a coach who hated to recruit. Remember before the season started, it was reported that Mac didn't like to recruit (won't get his hands dirty and recruit hard)....and the past three years, we have seen that.
Someone, please explain to me why we think Kelly has changed and now all of a sudden he is going to LOVE recruiting like Meyer did? I like the results on the field Kelly had at Oregon, but WOW, there are big time red flags about this hire. Once again, if you weren't around for the Pell years, then you do not have a point of reference what it means to get CRUSHED by the NCAA.

I don't think it was exactly like that. He isn't in charge of an outside recruiting service like he is coaches and players...It seems like he learned his lesson and we can provide the coaches and resources that he doesn't have to worry about recruiting as much and would still probably be TOP 10. He was Top 20 at Oregon having to use an outside recruiting service. Shouldn't be a problem here at all

I truly don't think Frost is interested. I think he either wants the Nebraska job or wants to try to get UCF to the Big 12 by having one more really good season. I may be biased, but I think it is a mistake on his part.

UF will upgrade facilities and any program becomes a pressure cooker when you win. UCF is not going to be UF. There is only one flag ship school in the state and it is not directional!

Not only that, but if Chip Kelly comes to UF, Frost can forget building UCF into a Florida power. No way he'll be able to attract the blue chippers if they can go to UF and get coached by Chip.

UCF wont be big time within the next 20 so years. they need to completely rebuild that garbage stadium, they need a way better conference, and way better fan support. they did have that a few years back in their first CUSA run, but it has dwindled to embarrassing levels during their greatest year.

Frost is an idiot if he stays

Pell turned our program around. Not sure what your point is. Yes, we got crushed but Pell made us great again (did I just say that? sorry). Was Oregon ever good? Now they are known. You think Oregon wouldn't do it all over again? Furthermore, UF wouldn't need to do that. UF is in Canaan ... the land of milk and honey. Kids will be signing up to play for his offense. Come on man ... think this through and stop using history myopically without full content. Thank GOD we had Pell as our coach when he was our coach ... I for one wouldn't ever change it.

Keep in mind that Oregon got 3 years of probation, no bowl ban or schollys lost. It wasn't ideal, but not some massive scandal. I also think the "hates recruiting" title is probably a little misplaced. He isn't along the lines of Meyer, but I don't put him in the same bracket as JM, if for no other reason than kids actually know who he is. His reputation alone will land kids, as opposed to people having to read up on this yellow-toothed person sitting on their couch.

Pell certainly did turn our program around...at a cost. UF knew he was dirty when they hired him from Clemson...he came from the Bear coaching tree (Pell, Danny Ford, Stallings, Debose to name a few that were associated with the Bear's way of doing things and landed them on probabtion). But since our program was in such disrepair, UF paid the devil. The end justifies the means. So, my history analogy is very relevant.

We are irrelevant now and have the worst record since that 79 team. And have been irrelevant the past 8 years. We are hiring someone who has a history of not only cheating but then (according to an earlier post) not cooperating with the NCAA. I really hope Kelly is not the cheater and lais a fare administrator that I have read about (oh, our recruiting company was paying recruits, not me). I want to see a winning product as much as the next UF alum....but are we repeating 1978 all over again....selling our souls???? I do not have the answer because I cannot predict the future....I am merely posing a question to all to look at the entire picture, not just wins and losses. IMHO, Chip Kelly has a TON of red flags.

Problem is they look at TCU and WV and think they will magically get the same bump if they got in Big12. They don’t realize how long those programs have been around and investing instead of just starting really caring a decade ago.

There travel now with that entire USA conference isn’t good but if you had to go to Texas for half your season that’s rough from Orlando. Might as well open up a facility there.

Ton of red flags? Selling our souls? Come on ... you are going overboard.
