I hope you're right. I won't be going this time and neither will most of my friends who used to go all the time. Not sure why I've lost interest in O and B games. You'd think a new coach and system would get me more excited. Maybe I've just gotten beaten down by years of build up to disappointment.

Probably didn’t help that the last 2 jackass hires here couldn’t even field a 2 deep and they made it a glorified practice...haven’t had a good scrimmage since the Meyer days

We are going as my wife will be working on campus that day. We have gone annually over the last 5+ years as we get a rental car and hotel room paid for by her company.

Traditionally, I would try to get to 1 or 2 games a year. Starting about 3 years ago, my wife and I made a conscious effort to be more involved with the program. We would attend more games, attend open practices, spring games, etc.

But man... Those scrimmages were horrendous!

We loved the fact that they were on Friday, as we could just drive down from Jax after work. Other than that, however, there wasn't anything pleasant about the experience.

Now, we've soured on the idea of attending the O&B Game. New players and a new coach can't wash the stink off that Mac left.

I'm a Gator junkie so I'll probably end up down there, but I totally understand why others have trepidation about going.

Hopefully CDM can infuse some life back into this program. Because, for the first time in my life I actually turned down tickets to see a GAME last year. Never thought that would be possible.

The way these guys play in a scrimmage compared to 50k plus people is night and day from an emotional and adrenaline standpoint as a player!

If nothing good can be expected, why are we practicing long & hard?
Since Mullen cannot produce a viable QB, how are we gonna sustain drives that get points?
What's the point of it all? Aren't we looking at another 4-8 season? So the sky has already fallen?

Just listened to a podcast with Chris Rainey, and he mentioned that he was working out with team or something but had been turned away in the past because McElwain did not allow past players to work out in the weight room. Freaking ridiculous.

McElwain could write a book on how to destroy a program. I'm still in awe every time I read something that the UAA didn't step in. "And yet" they gave out raises and contract extensions. It's unbelievable.

I heard he didn't allow active players in either.

The reason he didn’t allow previous players is because there wasn’t a weight room.

Honestly, you have to wonder why? Did he think they'd be bad influences? Was he worried that word would get out that he's running a loose ship? I don't get it. It's one of the things that most successful coaches do; welcome alumni/former players - especially those from the glory years. If he was so unwelcoming to the former players imagine what his relationship w/ Spurrier was like! Spurrier has been on a big-time talk show circuit the last few weeks....and he's let slip a few comments ("Watching the UF offense the last few years made me want to get back into coaching...").

Again, why didn't the UAA get involved? This whole thing was a disaster from the time he yelled at Kelvin Taylor forward....

The UAA from Foley to esp Stricklin was as complicit in the dysfunction as Mac himself.

It's inconceivable in my mind that Stricklin could recommend a Mac raise and extension a year ago if he was on top of the situation.

The answer is Foley. With a few months Striklin canned him.

Foley’s ego was so large he ran the biggest revenue sport into the ground.

Don’t think he did. I believe that was already promised by Foley and since he was new to the job he just honored it. Within a few months he canned him.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around that from a number of angles. We've got some people in high places who royally f*cked up, and two of them continue to wield enormous influence.

I think Stricklin has done a pretty damn good job. Chump, Fooley, and MacElstain are like the Three Stooges.
