The research on outcomes for young children who grow up in such dysfunction is clear and irrefutable. Such children experience far greater likelihood’s of teen pregnancy, school dropout, substance abuse, criminal activity and incarceration. Many issues arise from what’s known as attachment disorder. Because they were not bonded as children they fail to bond with others as adults. They have deep-seated issues. They often don’t view trust, loyalty and commitment as we do. They have not lived it. I don’t know enough about this kid to really know what he went through. Some kids are able to overcome these obstacles....some are not.
The bottom line though is just as clear. Our society demands that we are held accountable for our actions. That can’t be compromised. It would not be helping him to do so anyway. But just as clear is this kid needs help and guidance. Even as he continues to fail.
