Benefits of DJ Durkin:
He’s a good coach.
He’s an excellent recruiter/salesman.
He can be acquired for cheap.
He will stick around for Years since it will be a long while before he is offered another head coach gig.
He knows UF, SEC, Florida Football.
Put him on staff. There’s no downside.
This is the case I laid out when it first broke that he was fired. Coaches make mistakes--even egregious ones--all the time, and get some type of second chance, albeit at a much smaller position. He clearly made some mistakes and will have to pay. But acting as if he could never be touched again is too far, imo. Again, his skillset is still the same, and happens to be one we're lacking.
I don't think Grantham is performing that bad given his hand, and don't see him going anywhere in the near future. But it's also unlikely he remains forever. So why not have a backup(step-up) already on staff for when that happens. I think Itraz made a great point that he could come in and coach safeties, which would be a low-level, hardly mentioned position where he could spend a few years rehabbing his image. I don't see a down-side either.
