After week one I have a few thoughts:
Offense:
I'm thinking we see an Idaho type game were we will put up over 500 yards. If not, we have more concerns than we should have in my opinion. I think Franks throws for over 200 before being taken out of the game, but maybe not the 274 we saw in November. Some of which I think will be to get the running game into a rhythm as previously stated. No excuse for a lack of 50 points and 500 yards. If it were Nuss, I'd be begging for 400 yards.
Defense:
10 sacks, the first time an SEC team had done that in 11 years and I am sure there were greater mismatches than UF vs. Miami over that span. Bama has played at least one FCS team in that span. Just trying to point out how indeed special that stat line is. I doubt we see that number here because of less blitzing and I expect the Skyhawks to smartly call quick passes to try and evade the pass rush. I'm curious if we see Slaton and Stewart. They both can have an impact for this defense.
This is UF, our first team will somehow allow a field goal and our backups will allow the same or a TD so I don't see a rare shutout, even if this is a BAD FCS team from last year.
Special Teams:
Here's what I'm looking for: the appearance of setting up a return game. As I noted in my Miami review, for some dumb reason, we didn't even try to block or jam any gunners coming through the middle of the field on Miami's punts. Needless to say, those players had an impact on our return game, or lack thereof. It is also asking for a fake punt pass to be thrown down the middle of the field by someone. It's a small detail, but one that could have an impact in the future.

On a serious note, I am fearful of what we will see coming out of the Bahamas when the sun rises tomorrow. We've had many great Gators in various sports from the islands. If you pray, pray for the Bahamas, if you don't pray all the same. As I said on Facebook about the bar exam, what will praying do? At least as much as not praying will.
If you are on the coast, be safe, evacuate if you must. Keep us informed, I know that last year with Michael we lost contact with at least one poster. I may have missed if we finally got word from him.
Good luck everybody and Go Gators!
- Apparently, even the best QB's can have so-so showings against defenses that aren't as good as Miami's (which I think will end up being better. In before "stats don't matter" and "lies, damn lies, and statistics" (apply this one to recruiting rankings if you feel this is a catch all)
- Carolina appears to be who I thought they were. Shout out to Bentley as he deals with injury (could this save Muschamp?). I saw 6 weeks, which means his timetable to return is against us. I know, there are still Gators who see that Carolina will not be beat up after facing Bama, Mizzou, UK, and UGA in consecutive weeks coming into our game and that our 3 game stretch against Towson, Auburn, and LSU will have us more beat up. Barring injuries, I don't see this. If you're confused, Carolina has been a sexy pick to beat us, but not in the "how in the hell did we lose to THAT team" way, but in the "I think they have a legitimate shot at beating us" way.
- If UT and FSU o-lines don't change quick, they may start playing Skyler Mornhinwhig soon.
- Still wondering what type of game the Clemson game would have been had GT not gifted them VERY short fields early for 2 of their first 3 scores. Not saying they would have one, but very curious to what would happen if Tech continued to hang around into the second half for both sides psyche. Also, shout out to Sidehat for hugging each kid as they walked out. Much better than Miami who had over half of the team leave the field without shaking hands.
- How many times have we seen Mizzou lose some BS game in the early part of the season just to beat us later?
- Kentucky struggled early, but then turned it on against a MAC team. Did the same to open last season.
- Boy, was Saturday overall fun. I'd rather have our win over Miami than be Tennessee, FSU, or Carolina this week.
- Do we really have the last place in the SEC game this week with Ole Miss and Arky? Also, Stanford/USC is this week? I'm glad that the SEC is a lot more consistent with when teams play overall (at least with UF with few exceptions)
