Arm strength seems to have been the deciding factor in Dans choice for a starter at the beginning of the year. I think stretching the field with long throws was the way they wanted to attack the better defenses in the league. Elite defensive backfields will always be trying to pounce on everything they can keep in front of them. Mullen might have felt he had a couple turnover machines in Franks and Trask and just wanted to go over the top.
Trask doesn’t heave it as far or fast as Franks but has better natural touch. And if you look at guys like Pitts, Jefferson, Swain and Copeland you’ve got real weapons in the 10-30 yard range, Cleveland and Hammond for longer patterns 30+ yards downfield, Toney and Perine for LOS throws, and they seem to benefit right now from the accuracy and consistency of Trask over the strength of Franks. So far.....
The remaining questions now concern whether this mini revival of fun and gun works under elite pressure while throwing into the teeth of some very good defensive backfields, something Mullen did not really want to do with the QBs currently on site, but now HAS to do despite the fact that both Franks and Trask have thrown some howlers and fumbled under pressure behind a raw OL.
What semblance of running can we come up with?
How far can we ride this one dimensional wave?
And if Jones is a factor to alleviate it how much can Dan channel the earlier two headed monster of Leak and Tebow?
Can our guys keep making plays and hauling it in under tighter coverage?
Just how far can the Trask Train travel before it derails?
Will it?
