Thanks. Two big takeaways are the talent comparison between '12 with Quinn and this year's group giving up big plays (and passing yardage against better opponents). We don't seem to be confident or consistent with whatever we are doing (zone or man). The big plays are most alarming because of the impact they have on the mindset. Even more so when it happens against a zone when we are clearly trying to keep the action in front of us. UGA 's last TD is evidence of that.

The bottom line is that we don't have the roster (to include quality depth) to consistently execute what Grantham wants us to. It's hard to be sure what we need to do. Finding ways to put pressure on or contain the passer has been a giant factor in our two losses, compounded by gimpy Zuniga and Greenard (and such a great drop off behind them). I think there could be greater creativity employed in these situations. What we were doing against UGA was getting picked up (or swallowed up) by their OL. Right now, this phase of the game is killing us and we just aren't that good in coverage, particularly against the better QBs and extended pocket time.

I'm not married to the idea that Grantham is the greatest and I'm also wondering about English, but the comparison you suggest between this year's D and that under Shannon is quite similar and as frightening!

How about this. Even with Wilson seemingly taking a step back and the safety issues, our secondary entered the season with accolades of being as about as talented as any in the league. And yet through 9 games, how many contested INTs have we seen from them? INTs that weren’t terribly thrown balls essentially right to one of our defenders. How many times have one of our guys just jumped a route or broke on a ball that they were near?

Outside of Elam in the end zone once, Davis’ first pick against Uk and his one handed against Aub, I can’t think of any. There may be others I’m not recalling at the moment. But it seems that the only time we’re getting picks is when there’s a miscommunication by the offense or just a dreadful pass basically right to us. Thinking back over the years, I’m not sure I can ever remember so few of those type plays as we’ve seen the last 2 seasons. There’s just no confidence that I see out of the secondary.

It would be nice if someone, and I mean any swinging dick could tell Shawn Davis he
can use both hands to catch a pass. Dude tries to one hand Odell Beckham everything.
Had an easy one go off his hand on the first drive. We know bum Ron won't explain it to him.

Dimg ding ding. Mindset and trust. If you.are a corner in man, you dont playnas tight or gamble for an int if youmhabe tomshade high bc you know your safeties are FIU/Houston level. In zone, same thing.

Much of our problem seems to be communication, like the last Ugly TD w Marco and JT taking the same man and letting Cager run free.

It affects the run too. When you're a safety you are less aggressive when you have to wonder if the LB will have that C gap and the corner will be in position.

I dont know how much is talent- much of it is-- and how much is poor coaching-- much of it is. Without talent on the bench, you cant replace the ones that arent executing on the field.

Still, there is no doubt we do not have the top 4 or 5 DBs on the field. Two or three of the five may be true freshmen.

Not to mention he's a flea-infested career loser that doesn't present well and can't recruit. He's being paid 2 mil to win games like Saturday. Instead, we can't get off the field. The guy is a Shoney's buffet, chain smoking garbage human being that no one outside of Mullen likes. Total embarrassment that should've never been hired.
Truth hurts sometimes. You couldn't be more correct. The guy was exciting to have a blitzing, attacking defense. But then sh!ts the bed in the two biggest games of the year. It seemed like We never once stopped LSU or Georgia in either of those games. And that we hardly blitzed at all. Basically surrendered and played on our heels for 4 quarters. I've never felt so powerless. It's almost the defensive equivalent to the offensive suckage we experienced during Muschamp and Mac. Hard to fathom even. Maybe he does need to get fired.

Donk’s thumb got lazy, was reaching for the space bar and only made it to the ‘m’ key.

You ever try typing with a wicked rum hangover and a Virginia Slim bobbing up and down in your lips, while barking orders at a fictitious assistant?

It’s not for everybody.

Curious though, and I love Top Billin, are we saying that no changes need to be made? It says we need a few personnel members, but that means we must recruit them because we haven’t so far. Then it becomes “well, they need 4 years to develop”, then it becomes “not everyone develops, wait until this recruit comes in next year, but give him 4 years” and the excuses keep compounding.

todd grantham sucks, its been documented at every stop hes ever had. the genesis for 3rd and grantham didnt occur at florida, its been around for 10+ years and screamed about at every DC stop he's made. that happens because its a thing, its not anecdotal. its just plain truth and the fact that its been going on over a decade means it aint changing because he aint changing.

i dont know what pisses me off more - having to suffer though horrific defense every time we play a good team, or the fact that mullen watches and thinks hes the best defensive coordinator in the country.

grantham aint goin anywhere, and neither are the gators because of it. face facts yall, we are at our ceiling barring significant changes in philosophy and perspective from the HC. are changes likely to occur? well if you ask 2bits he'll tell you we are stocked full of super secret commits and big time staff upgrades are all a done deal. for those of us where seeing is believing, however, its gonna be a long offseason.

Not many people here are going to argue with what you wrote. Except the last paragraph. In a perfect world Spurrier would have already been in Mullen’s office telling him how and why he brought Bob Stoops in as DC.

The Bowl Formula. He used that with Butters.

Have you considered basketball? We have a heck of a roster this year. Just saying.
