Does anyone think Ed Orgeron would be successful at UF?

Terrible is what they were in 2017, the year before Ensminger was promoted. They were halfway decent last year. They’re obviously much better this year with Brady’s input.
He was terrible the last time he was OC for them.

And all the other times he's been an OC for the last two decades.

You probably bought a lot of shamwows back in the day, didn't you? You seem to fall for anything.

The change in their game is their Asst OC/passing coordinator.

Damn, how did I miss that craze? I’m not buying any more paper towels.

Yeah, he"s 10-0 and #1 in the CFB and also has the #1 ranked recruiting class. He clearly stinks.

Per usual, Donkey doesn't know what the heck he's talking about. Shamwows are awesome, and should be mandatory. Go out and get some in bulk at Home Depot or I'll ring Greta Thunberg on you.

I have a slightly different take on this...are you bringing those ridiculous assistants and all that talent? If so, yeah. He arguably has the best OC and DC combo in the country(maybe Dabo and and Venables are tops). Ogre is a figurehead and those assistants are some of the best money can buy.

It's really rare when the HC can actually ALLOW his coordinators to do their own thing. Most just can't do it. Cue Muschump screaming "JUST RUN THE DAMN BALL" into his headset.

Cajuns are different than us. I doubt it works here.
This was my first thought. He'd certainly be a cultural misfit (is their even a Cajun restaurant in Gainesville these days?). But as others have stated, with his current staff and similar talent, he'd do ok on the field. I'm not sure how recruiting outside of Louisiana would go, but then he's supposed to have had recruiting success out west. :dunno:

Despite his current success, I have a hard time seeing him as a great fit most anywhere else. I think historically there are far fewer coaches that have been really successful at more than one stop than there are those who excelled at one school. I believe Ed O is the latter and for just how long is a relevant question. I wouldn't mind riding around in the pickup with him and talking football/drinking beer one afternoon. There's a little more to him than his media persona might suggest ;)

Let’s see, a former national recruiter of the year that can put asses in seats, is a DL and lineman specialist, manages the program as an enthusiastic competitor, plays to his strength as a recruiter while delegating responsibility to his coordinators to the extent possible, is no threat to jump into the NFL head coaching ranks. Other than the accent and goofy mannerisms he’d probably be just what the doctor ordered here. Which is of course a deal breaker.

I think he is the ultimate insider of a certain coaching tree and his questionable recruiting practices are well suited and camouflaged in his state of employment.

He is a one hit wonder - hope he wins it all this year.

Brady looks to be the next Gus Malzahn. He will leave next year and return to LSU as their HC when Farmer Fran gets fired.

T REX has the truth on this one.

Two years ago, Coach O was almost fired because of his dysfunctional meddling in the game plans of his coordinators. He was told to back off and let them do what they do and the team immediately saw improvement.

Unfortunately, his choice for OC, Steve Ensminger, was a joke and the offense continued to underachieve just as it had for a decade. The big move obviously was bringing in Brady, but more importantly, was allowing him to actually implement the scheme that, are you ready for this, actually took advantage of the supreme offensive talent on the roster.

Coach O has not changed at all, he is still a borderline moron that can recruit his tail off and is a native son.
I fully expect him to be named SEC Coach of the Year and he may win it nationally as well but we all know that he is still a candidate for the short bus that provides us with yet another example of what a great country this is.

That is being done in spite of him, not because of him. He’s among the top 5 worst coaches in the nation. The New Mexico State coach is better.

People want to talk about how Orgeron recruited well yet failed miserably at Ole Piss? I don't know if I'd even call him a slightly better version of Butters.

For those that keep claiming hes a great D line coach, you dont know anything about him. He's a terrible X's and O's coach no matter the position group. He's a fantastic recruiter and motivator. Those are the ONLY things he does well. And because those are the only 2 things he's doing at LSU coupled with having top talent at the position and coordinator spots is the reason they are having success. Now I will give him full credit for knowing he doesnt know squat and being smart enough to get people who do. Whether we like it or not, that is the most common trait of a good leader.
