If I missed the post, oops. One of the mods at the Gas has linked a post by a guy/possible former player on the 24/7 forums who says Mac is gone Sunday. The guy posting this said in September 7 of 9 would get diversions (this week announced) and is the same guy who mentioned the Grier failed test DURING the Mizzou game...things might get interesting this week

You know it is bad when Swamp Gas is talking about him being fired. They jump ship about two days before the ax comes.

In a week though, the entire problem with the program will be caused by Butterteeth for years to come.

See, what I've seen is less of a jumping of ship (at least by the mod OP), but more of an informative "here's what people are saying..." follow that up with the gridiron now story linked on this thread (not sure which came first) and things are looking wacky. But unless we can salvage this class, we may be F'd for at least next year.

It is impossible to make it worse. Butters pulling another 116th offense with a 4-8 record and returning on a nuclear hotseat with a like expectancy of midOctober is the worst possible outcome for the class. Many will bolt.

ANYONE we hire will be better than 116th-- who hires a 100th ranked OC other than us?-- and will be able to say "It's time to turn this around."

If they are doing it NOW, there is a reason.

I've heard that Corral is a lock no matter if we get rid of Mac or not. Imo Corral is the driving force behind this class anyway. Yes Mac got Corral but Corral pulled most of the rest, he's the best recruiter we've had since Mac took over

No. Corral got Butters. Butters didn't even recruit Corral, didn't even call him. Corral called us, had to beg for a slot and was slowplayed while we kept begging another dude.

Corral is a Gator and any football kid can see how stupid our offense is. They have coaches and playbooks. Most are on championship level teams. They know what good offense looks like and what it doesnt.

If true, we need a Corral appreciation thread.

It's a sad day when a 17 or 18 year old kid has more positive influence on our team then our head coach.

What do you mean if true? It was printed even by those who worship Butterteeth that Corral called us and invited himself to our camp (to practice against Fields even).

Cocky SOB. I really like that.

My chief concern, in the event that McElwain is retained, is just this. The Gators will head into 2018 with their coach listed as the clear Number 1 choice for every "Coaches on the Hot Seat" list on every media outlet in the country. It will be a significant distraction no matter how much improvement there may actually be in on-field improvement. (And I'm not sure there will be any improvement without significant staff turnover....and I'm not sure how much of that is in the cards).

I would not normally advocate for a mid-season coaching change but the events of this week and the public perception of the coach and the program, even more than the putrid performance on the field, make it seem imperative. But I'm doubtful it will happen.

We're all doubtful because the administration has done nothing in the past 7 years to give the fans any positive expectations....nothing but gaffes, flubs, and eff-ups.

However, Stricklin is new and has a huge opportunity to make his mark......

I will say (another of those anecdotal stories) that I have a buddy who used to work in the MSU athletic department. He speaks very highly of Stricklin and believes him to be a quality guy. He thinks Gator fans characterizations of him as a "Foley puppet" are inaccurate and that UF faithful will find him to be a competent leader going forward.

Obviously this current mess is a huge early test for him.

I don't think Fooley felt any pressure to get it right. Stricklin doesn't have any goodwill built up. He HAS to get it right. Can't take chances.

Yeah, that's a good point.

I guess I just presume a minimal level of competence... and yet I've heard people talk about Cousin Eddie Mullens.

Yeah that's the problem: a minimal level of competence.

I think y'all are getting way too carried away when it comes to who our next coach. There's no way they're as far along in the process as these rumors are saying.
