I watched the game last night to take a look at Jones. There is some potential with him going forward.....HOWEVER would it hurt the coaches to buy the kid a burger!!! He looks smaller than guys like Swain and Hammond. If he's the future he really needs to add 15-20# in a hurry...

I also watched some of the UGA game and the kid Fields is pure talent and looks a little more polished at this point than Jones although our offensive line subs would barely be practice squad material for them at this point.

I hope not, Franks is not a guy you want throwing a ton. Safe throws, yes. He doesn't need to turn the ball over in this game. Franks needs to be limited to 20 passes a game, we need to pound the rock. That includes Franks using his big body as well to get tuff yards. I want to see Franks under center and a RB in the backfield like we did in the SC game some. It was a different look and we really gashed SC going under center.
What I meant was the first couple series, possibly even the opening play, are likely to be scripted with a downfield ball or two to test the FSU secondary and loosen up the defense for the sake of running lanes. We don't want them stacking the box and making it hard for our runners to see openings.

First play: fake wideout screen, blocker for wideout releases to go deep. TD !!

Hell, yeah. We opened with a flea flicker against somebody. Damn receiver was wide effing open. Helluva way to take the air out of the stadium.

We did against UGA
He overthrew that receiver, but not by much. The receiver could have made a better effort IMO.

I'm actually okay with FF on the deep ball. He's connected on a number of really nice throws. Not so much on the intermediate stuff, esp after he checks off the primary receiver. It's there where he waits too long, forces the ball into coverage, throws behind people and gets himself in trouble.

You can't be too unhappy with the six picks against 21 TDs, though. He's improved, and Mullen and a personal commitment to getting better are the reasons.

But we're brain dead if we don't test the FSU secondary early. There's a reason why they're ranked 118th in pass defense, whether it's bad talent, scheme issues, lack of pass rush or a combination.

We need to find out why.

It totally depends on Franks.

If Franks plays well, like he did against the Cocks, I’d hold EJ out.

If Franks struggles, EJ is playing.

In any event, EJ would get considerable playing time over in one game or the other.

EJ is still showing he is a Freshman BUT he could easily be our future. We need to see him against some real talent.

He almost always overthrows the long stuff especially over the middle. I think it was Jefferson who laid out for one last week and it was just too far.

Gotta ask yourself which game is more important, FSU or the Bowl game? Id say FSU.
FSU is more important. We gotta win it to get to a good bowl game, and to put an end to this miserable 5 game losing streak. Also . . . to make them suffer a losing record and a bowl-less December. Beat FSU and worry about the bowl game after it's announced. Kind of like how I view one-and-one free throws in hoops. Make the first, and worry about the second one later.

If you want to see a stat that shows you the problem with Franks just look at our 3 bigger name receivers. Jefferson, Cleveland and Grimes are all averaging around 30 yards or less a game this season.

Or you could look at Mullinz stats for the last 15 years.

It doesn’t matter how bad the secondary is if you can’t hit the open receiver, running free...

Slightly off topic...

I saw the Bears vs Packers game a week or so ago. I liked the way the Bears O used the jet sweep to stress the D and make them hesitate, not knowing if the run was going left or right. I’d like to see DM use that with the skill players we have. Even more so with EJ at QB.
