Of all the posts in this thread...you highlight that one as embarrassing? That’s embarrassing.
No, I was agreeing with him about the comparison. It’s embarrassing to compare a middle of the road FCS team to a SEC team. Even if you’re talking pure strategy, an FCS team shouldn’t be able to employ it effectively against the 1s, plain and simple.

Being afraid to be critical of performance is embarrassing, though. Doesn’t allow for growth. You should know that.

This is my 30th year watching Gator football. NEVER, until now, have I been concerned about losing to Kentucky, even without their QB. It's a strange and awful feeling, but watching Franks stirs up feelings like that all the time.
Ox, I love ya, but this is horseshyt. It wasn’t that long ago that Del Rio, Driskel, Treon, et al, were taking snaps against Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Missouri, Vandy, etc.

The ONLY time we had a competent qb under center was Grier, and many members of this board(‘78 excluded) we’re scared sh!tless every time he took a snap, because he was just as erratic as the others I mentioned. We should’ve lost to Kentucky a handful of times before it actually happened last year(the 3OT game and leaving two wide open receivers game in the 4th quarter come to mind) and probably should’ve lost to Tennessee more than once in the last few years, too.

Franks is what he is, there’s nothing that Trask or EJ have shown to make me think they’re a better option than Franks. We will struggle against Auburn, LSU and UGay, because of our oline, but Mullen seems to get this team up for those big games.

I personally think we will win 2 of those 3 and still be in the running for the East at the end of the season. I could be wrong, but we will see.

Well just a little free advice, if you don't watch the game then it might not be a good idea to have strong opinions about what everybody else saw. If you're going to bych about statistics rather than the actual events, then bych about FF having one of the statistically best games that a UF QB has ever had.
I watched the second half and have read everything there is to read about the first. Pretty consistent with what I’m writing. And it’s not like this is an aberration - we’ve seen this team start slowly time and again. It’s lack of leadership at the player level. No one is holding each other accountable. They’re just buds out slinging the rock. Franks or some other high profile player needs to step up and stop allowing his teammates to have “bad effort”, like Mullen notes.

And this, ladies and asshollleees is why Franks/Millens/our ****S will never be enough. The bar was set so high with those coaches and the timmys and dannys and jimmys and joes they had..........it is up there where Zambo works each day. But I get it. I want that type of offense again. But I have to say I do THANK GOD we finally had them.
Yea... sucks when there is 20 years worth of semi-recent, relevant evidence that proves this program CAN be great when given the proper support, coaching, and athletes. You act like fans are hanging onto 1 great season from the 80s as proof that the Gators can be mighty. We dominated the SEC for the better part of 2 of the last 3 decades. It’s possible to do it again.

I have a theory about these directional schools and Martins. 1 stars and 2 stars want to play. Hell even many 3 stars. I mean they WANT TO BE on the FIELD. Not sit on a bench for a name school. I admire it. THey are competitive and probably played a lot at the HS level. So going beyond the power 10 schools that attract the majority of 4-5 stars we have parity. Used to only see it in basketball but football is proving it with all these competitive games against named schools. Throw in that these kids want to PROVE they are good enough to compete with NAMED school players they bring it with their hard hats on. And many of these schools have big kids now. Hell, I see HS now with OLs and DLs that
amaze me. I keep hearing that was a HS team. Nope.
It’s possible to do it again.
I agree we can be great again.........dominate? I would love to but lots of money out there and fan bases that want to win, too. I honestly think the most important factor in a great program now is coaching...........and coaches leave all the time to move up. So many damned variables.........If you cannot get 8-10 FIVE stars a year you aint keeping up..........

We scored 42 points in the last 3 quarters. Just 3 in the 1st. That’s nearly a 60 point pace over 4 Qtrs. So all of this anguish over a slow 1st Qtr?

As we’ve heard....nobody suffers winning like us.

Just to be clear, I'm not dissing your entire body of work here, just the point about only scoring 3 points in the 1st quarter. We looked fine on our first and only drive and should have scored an easy TD if not for our player inexplicably just falling down. Although we definitely have work to do, we only had 4 real possessions in the half and we scored 2 TDs and a FG that should have been a TD. I'm certainly not saying we are ready to win the SEC or even the east though.

Seeing a QB in there with a lightning release was a breath of fresh air.

Discuss.

No thanks. Took him all of 1-2 plays before he forgot what jersey he was wearing. The guy hesitated with every single one of his throws.

EJ didn't look much better.

Lets just hope AR is the real deal because I think we will be missing Franks if he isn't.

How would you possibly know this while living in Boulder Colorado?

This thread encompasses everything that is wrong with message boards.

A thread like this is the reason I keep reading, and apparently so many others do as well on an obviously sarcastic and inaccurate title that has reached 8 pages.

I think AR will be the real deal. But we need EJ to bridge the gap. AR will be a great runner from the jump but will need development as a passer.

The same way any fan without access to the locker room does - play on the field and reports on the Internet, of course. You can’t really know it but something is lacking. Being involved with leadership on a daily basis, my experience leads me to believe that’s where we lack. Units I’ve been with that perform highly have high levels of peer accountability. Lower performing units wait for the boss to get them ready. That’s what I see with this team. If you’ve got clips of guys yelling at each other for missed blocks or tackles, I’d love to see them.

Franks is intentionally keeping games close to keep EJ and Trask off the field. Smart dude. Why allow your competition an opportunity to look good? ;)
That’s where we are heading now? Sandbagging games....ahhh boy...

The sideways offense is what Mullen loves to run to complement the running game and set up the deep ball. He did the same thing under Meyer, which is why Law hated the offense even while we were winning with it last decade. Like it or not, it is the strength of this offense, and we're going to see a lot more of it because it protects your QB, helps keeps him in rhythm, and we have the WRs to run the plays effectively.

Good god,....now that Franks and the rest of the QB's have been tied to a Whippin' Post let me say this Ox is right and so are his detractors regarding Franks. Everyone is missing the point. McElwain and Chimp nuked our program. If you were a recruit all you know is here and now.....16, 17, and 18 year olds have no clue about UF legacy past a decade. The issue isn't Franks or the rest of the QB's, it's Coach Mullen. The issue is how he will manage them by putting them in the best position he can so they can perform with some success with the limited abilities they have. CDM is going to need to step it up on recruiting by either getting better at damn fast or go hire some mercenary gunslinger that can get it done. As for the rest of you on this board griping like the true professionals you are let's fire up the Allman Brothers' Whipping post:

[To the tune of the Whipping Post --the live version-- (for extended griping)]

I've been run down and I've been lied to.
And I don't know why, I let Felipe Franks 2019 expectations make me a fool.
He took all my spirit, wrecked my season outlook.
Now I'm with one of my good time Gator buddies,
Drinkin' my blues away in some cross-town bar.
Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whippin' post.
Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.
The GatorChatter Board tells me, that I've been such a fool.
But I had to stand by and take it guys, all for lovin' the Gators.
Drown myself in sorrow as I look at what my Franks expectations have done.
But nothing seemed to change, the pick sixes and interceptions keep on comin',
And I can't run, I'm a Gator to the end
Even though sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whippin' post.
Tied to the whippin' post, tied to the whippin' post.
Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin' this season.

Good post. GREAT song. Good coaching and good recruiting are the keys to our program. I still have a good feeling about Dan.

I've said for a long time if Trask was ever given enough live action to let the game slow down a bit for him, he could be good. It won't happen though unless Franks gets hurt. Jones doesn't look ready at all. Especially throwing the ball. He still looks pretty skinny to me too when compared to the other players around him.
