If Grantham leaves this year which DC do you want?

Which DCs who are realistic options would be on your list?

Off of the top of my head:

Charlie Strong might get fired by USF. He is a strong recruiter, proven DC, has ties to UF and Mullen, and he would be a long time hire.

Derek Mason could get fired by Vandy. He is a great DC. I am not sure how he is as a recruiter, but he is a great defensive coordinator. He would probably be a strong recruiter at UF.

I’d lobe Charlie but I’m not so sure he’d be done entirely at the head spot. He might have one more smaller level shot. In any event though, I think he makes it to next season so if he’s our guy, we’d need TG for one more year.

Mason would also be great, but same story. I think both are at their respective locations until mid/post 2020.

I’d love to have either of those two on our defensive side of the ball but I don’t think Mason is a valid option. Didn’t he and Mullen get into a small confrontation last year over an injured player? Vandy bench was coming onto the field if I remember correctly...

I don't know that Grantham is going anywhere. Chris doering said on the broadcast that Grantham likes the family atmosphere and likes that he can have his family at practices and what not. Sure, hed leave for an HC gig but he doesn't really fly the mold of what these schools are looking for. He's not a young polished pretty boy. He turned down the nfl last year already. Not saying that's it's not a possibility but I don't think Grantham leaving is as probable as some of you guys.

I'm pretty sure if Grantham goes, Christian Robinson goes with. Not a fan of that.

I wouldn't mind giving Marquand Manuel a call. Dan Quinn did him dirty in Atlanta and I don't believe he's actively coaching right now.

Grantham has been throwing his name out (or at least his agent has) for the last two years, he wants a head coaching gig or an NFL DC gig (that would lead to a HC gig). I don't think he comes back. But yes, he's got it made at UF for as long as he wants (as long as there's not a colossal collapse on his part), and at nearly $2 million/year he can be selective about where he goes.

I think Saban would do well as a DC. Proven recruiter. Good secondary schemes. Knows the SEC.

Other than NFL, I don't see Grantham leaving.

Charlie and Mr.AnchorDown? I'd like Strong, I'd not like Mason in general. But I see both as a short term IF they would even come as I think both see themselves as HBC (and it would never be @UF, per UF choice). I don't have any others I'd like to see, because I just don't pay attention to the other DC's. I just needed to add a reply so I could earn some dislikes for poo-pooing the suggestion without offering much in the way of constructive alternatives.

I like MM a lot. I just don't see him staying put in CFB for awhile. Combining that
with the fact we have no idea how we would be as a recruiter are the main two draw backs.
I think he asked Eli Apple if he liked men in one of the pre draft interview formalities:wtf: .

i dont think mason will be available, hes gonna get another year after beating mizzo. strong may be canned, but bet he tries for another HC somewhere. Either of those would kick ass though - both really good DCs, one strong (pun intended) recruiter and the other i think would be as well if he came here.

I'd love to have Charlie back, but you're right about him trying for another HC job elsewhere.

Promoting Gray would be a decent option, or poaching DRob from Duncechump would be good too.
