Sausage Party (2017) <Netflix>
So, what everybody thought was a great new 'adult' comedy, was... not a date movie. I got to pick the movie for date night, and we only made it half way through about a week ago. She wasn't digging it, and I was struggling, but I will make it through anything once. Tonight I finished it, so here's my take. If you look below the surface, you can find a message about religion versus blind faith. However, it is not so subtly hidden behind a flood of filthy language, a LOT of overt sexual innuendo, and a villain that is aptly chosen but reaches a point of being obnoxious well before the end. Even as a teen, a twenty-something, or whatever...I believe you will find the sophomoric tone funny for 15min, then it becomes overbearing. I'm no prude by any means, but the language was full of cusswords simply to see how many they could fit in the movie. Enough so, that it overtook the tone of the movie and became bothersome.
I suppose you could tell by the tone so far, I was not impressed. And, I likely get no points for sparing my wife the second half. Would I recommend the film? Only for a night by yourself - no date, no friends, maybe some pot if that's your thing or some beers. However, I strongly believe you can enjoy your evening better with the pot or beer (or both) without this film. I appreciate the effort, and the cast, but ultimately can only offer 4/10.
