It's NOT about recruiting

Well here I am posting back here. But I don't know where else this can be posted. This is the one board unlike boards at 247sports, Rivals etc where the owner does not make his money on recruiting. So this is the board where this can be said despite Donkey fainting and calling names and trying to cut off debate.

To the extent Mullen is in trouble this season it is because he lost to UK at team he has much more talent than and LSU a team with equal talent and terrible coaching. When your 13 losses at UF include TWO to UK, one at home to UMo and TWO to reeling LSU programs, the issue is having your team ready to play each week NOT recruiting. When your two bad losses are 7 point losses in one game where you scored 13 points and another game where you allowed 49 points, it is not a matter of defense or offense it is a matter of having your team ready to play both sides of the ball every week. When you screw up some simple thing in place kicking in every one of your losses there, you don't have your whole team focused and ready to play.

Of course the guys selling recruiting rankings and player star rating will tell you it is all about recruiting. That is in their self interest. The biggest hint it is not about recruiting was Smart mouthing off in the post game press conference last week. GATORS DON'T TAKE ADVICE FROM BULLDOGS. Smart does not have UF's best interest at heart. He was not giving you heartfelt advice to help UF's program get better. Smart was and is trying to sew discord in UF program. Don't help him out by running down UF's current players even implicitly.

Dare to think differently than the pack. Understand the self interest of the recruiting services and Kirby Smart. Don't give Mullen the talent excuse. UF has a very talented squad and should not be 4-4.

UF has mediocre talent. But this isn't an excuse for Mullen.

Mullen is responsible for the garbage recruiting the last 4 years.

The guys on 247 would rather have the #1 recruiting class than win a national championship. It's weird

Hit it on the head....Good or great coaches usually do a lot of things well or they FIND someone to do the things they don't do well....be it recruiting, special teams, hiring staff(even beyond the coaches). In a nutshell they see the whole picture for what it is.

Sometimes even the best coordinators struggle as head coaches because in their mind their part of the puzzle is on track. You can have the best offense on the planet(not that I think Mullens is but it's not the worst either) but when you watch your position coaches and defensive coordinator suck balls game after game and watch the same 6 or 8 guys he plays week after week step on the scale during fall camp at the same weight in their 6th year as they were when they came in you know it's time for change....

If not then you're not worthy of being the head coach at a school like UF....Dan Mullen is cut from the same mold as Muschamp....he just works on the other side of the ball. Neither is a complete HC at a major school...

It's all the things the OP mentioned AND recruiting,,

we've definitely seen some head scratching game day decisions from the staff, the team never looks ready to compete at the start of the game, Mullet is an average OC at best, his in game decisions are good for at least one loss a year to a team we should beat, , keeping fat grantham around guarantees another loss that should be a win.

Casting all that aside,, if this staff had it together,, we still couldn't win it all because in recent times, no team has won it the NC unless they have a certain percentage of blue chippers and 5* players. So yes,, recruiting is still a major problem.

It's weird the stuff that gets posted when you team is 4-4, just got prison raped by it's arch rival and you have a coach that you want so much to can and can't. It's just random "oh it's not the recruiting" or "dont diss the players cause that hurts their future ability to earn and it hurt recruiting". True enough, but is it really on the fan base to worry about that as opposed to.....I don't know...the administrators and coaches knocking down millions to do the kind of job they get paid to do? I have no interests in tearing down any of the players and in fact, I feel bad for the kids that came to UF and thought they were getting elite football instruction, would be competing at a high level and having a chance to play for championships and get a shot at the NFL. That's gotta feel like a fading dream for most of them.........and it ain't whats being said on Gatorchatter that's the reason. Just my 2c.

Yeah, because they make more money that way.
He believes this.

This goofnut really thinks that Saban, Meyer, Shart and Dabo scouring the country for the top talent are wasting their time and the real way to the top is three-star U.

What a weird thread. I'm kind of a big picture guy so I'll boil it down for everyone. Its about Dan. He's completely incompetent. Everything else is just noise.

If you go back and look at Clemson recruiting, UF has averaged as good if not better classes over the last 6-7 years on the Orange Bowl years ago. Dabo seat was warm amongst fans, similar to mullens now.

Fsu prison raped them in 13 and 14 but played much better since until this year.

And get this. Outside of lsu and 1st qtr of Alabama, the defense has done well from a giving up points viewpoint. He still needs to go because of past performance and so do several assistants.

And, recruiting needs to improve a lot because of our conference. We need more of th top shelf 4 and 5 star players as you arent getting thru unscathed. Quality depth, which happens with several years of quality recruits, is mandatory. Only place we have that is RB.

Clemsons big success is staff continuity of GOOD coaches which happened after giving up 70 points in the Orange Bowl. Dabo hire better.
