49ers are still trying to offload Kaepernick and his salary. Kelly doesn't have a mountain of a playbook, because most of this formations revolved around a small group of plays, which is why his time with the Eagles who had better offensive talent was short. Defensive Coordinators were catching on. Unless he gets some NFL guys who will tell him "no" he will have a short career in SF as well.

The coach at La Tech, who used to coach Byron Leftwich, not exactly a rocket surgeon, said he had to drastically dumb down his playbook for Driskel, as did every other OC.

Good luck with that NFL playbook.

That doesnt exist.
You know, my devious mind said this when I read Laws comment - 'I wonder if he's just pulling this crap out of his ass'.
Glad Ox asked for the link and you had the balls to call him out on it.

Not a chance Holtz would have said that about his quarterback, not in public, but there's about as poor a chance that Meyer went out of his way to recruit high-IQ skilled people on offense. That includes Driskel. He wanted ATHLETES.

I didn't say Holtz. Holtz wasn't the OC and he didn't coach Leftwich.

Well, the wording was "simplify the offense" or some euphemism to that effect, just like the OC's said every year at UF.

What about gaining his trust, boosting his confidence and allowing him a bigger say-so in the offense?

I hope the kid makes it. He was just plain awful here though for whatever reason.

There is a couple of articles out there where the coach says he sat down with Driskel on 3rd down plays etc and says he dropped the ones Driskel told him he wasn't comfortable with. Not sure how Driskel will do in the NFL but the times I watched La Tech it seemed like a lot of those plays were pretty much predetermined reads.

A quick google of "driskel simplify" gives you these gems:

Yes, we can all agree that Driskel simply has to consistently do a better job making decisions, getting the ball out of his hands faster, and taking care of the football.

Consistently better.

Pease said that he will simplify things a little more in certain situations for the offense.

Roper's scheme should simplify Driskel's responsibilities and capitalize on his strengths.

The Tech offense simplified things for him, offering a lot of pre-determined reads out of the shotgun.

There does seem to be a trend.

What did he have? 10 turnovers in the last two games and the cowbell game? Or was that the QB from Memphis?

Takes time. He's no Einstein, but we didn't groom him well either.

So if Driskel is lighting up the NFL by November, maybe the ticket office can pass out 92,000 Driskel masks for the South Carolina game.
