Show recommendation thread

I am in season 3 of the Columbia Narcos and its pretty cool. I know most is probably fiction but its cool to kinda see the truths behind it. Very interesting.
Its fun after watching the show to google all the characters, see their actual faces, and read about their actual history.

Before I quit my last job I was planning a meeting where the real Narcos guys were going to be the keynote speakers. I communicated with Steve Murphy getting everything set up. I was bummed I didn't get to hear them speak, but that job wasn't worth staying at just to hear the presentation. I still need to watch the show.

Kind of a coincidence...
A couple of years ago I attended a DEA Memorial golf tournament for several agents killed in South America (pictured on the poster).
They were auctioning off memorabilia from the Narcos show.
Steve showed up:

I enjoy the Orville, it is sort of like Star Trek of old, but with some stupid PC stuff in it. I don't really like that the person who originated it stars in it.
I bought one season, I won't buy the second. I found myself bored. The original Star Trek was mostly sci-fi with some SJW stuff slipped in. This is mostly SJW with occasional sci-fi thrown in. I couldn't help thinking this was Seth McFarland trying to shed his Family Guy heritage and become accepted by the Hollywood crowd.

I thought it was soooooo f**cking stupid and affected. There were a lot of things thrown in by Hollywood writers that mimicked their own political bent that Clancy would have had a fit over. The other glaring example was making Greer a muslim. A totally concocted PC move.

In real life, drone pilots do get PTSD from killing people. However, the dude in the tv show didn't add anything to the story.

None. It made no sense. I honestly forgot about him because it did nothing for the show

I think they are purposely building his character slowly.
They left him in the first season still overseas. I think he has flipping to the other side written all over him.

That does make sense I guess. Clearly there needs to be more of him if there’s every going to be a reason for him to begin with

for sure. I really liked the show. Hope they keep doing it.

I get it for free, I probably would not buy it. There is too much side stuff for my tastes as well. The latest Star Trek is not free and when I looked at it somehow it violated everything I believe Star Trek was to be.

Wow, no one has mentioned Ozark with Jason Bateman.

Netflix (2 seasons)
The Byrdes and their teenage kids, Charlotte and Jonah, are, for all intents and purposes, an ordinary family with ordinary lives. Except for the job of Marty, a Chicago financial advisor who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. When things go awry, Marty must uproot his family from the skyscrapers of Chicago and relocate to the lazy lake region of the Missouri Ozarks.

Loved that show...but having grew up vacationing there and my parents live there now their portrayal of the actual area and the lake are so off it bugs me but still a very solid show.

I’ve watched all 3 seasons and just finished the first season of Mexico and loved them. Lots of reading in subtitles though so you kind of have to be dialed in. I enjoyed it much more watching them on planes because I was way more focused

I’m really into Damages right now. All the seasons are 90% RT or higher. Stars Glenn Close, Rose Byrn, Tate Donovan, Ted Danson, William Hunt and a crap ton more throughout its seasons.

So you’re saying I shouldn’t be a bottle into wine when I watch?

No i fully support a bottle of wine for all occasions...however...when wifey and I watched we were always a bottle or 2 in when watching and we sometimes didn't catch everything. However...when watching alone on the plane (also with plenty of wine because I'm a first class kind of guy :swampqueen:) i tended to be more locked in

Ok :whew:

I was halfway through crossing it off the list!

don't do that...it's really good

Also we really liked You on Netflix...as a show. As a father of daughters now it was so creepy it was almost unwatchable but well done

When y'all review a show you're sorta supposed to offer a clue as to what the show is about.

So I finished both seasons of the missing. And it easily became one of my all time favorite crime/murder mystery shows. Insanely well written. I think it’s on amazon prime now if you don’t have Starz.

Dark and Godless are also really good on Netflix.
The missing shows might be one of the most underrated shows I've ever seen. Can't believe there hasn't been a season 3.

They’re making one! It’ll be a prequel about the French cop before the two seasons. It’ll still have him in it as the main actor. Not sure if it’s being filmed yet but yeah, man what a roller coaster those seasons were.
