Good luck!@Fodderwing getting the job done!! I need to get one more deer this season.
Cz 527 Carbine in 7.62x39 shooting 123 grain SST bullets.Nice! Where did you hit her? What are you shooting?
For deer I'm shooting a 150gn SST in 300 win mag. Haven't lost one yet. They are either DRT or leave a blood trail Ray Charles could follow.Fodderwing posted that he shoots Cz 527 Carbine in 7.62x39 shooting 123 grain SST bullets and that made me wonder what other deer hunters on this board shoot. I don't deer hunt but I do have (or at least I did have before my tragic boating accident and lost all my weapons) two bolt action .308 rifles (one is a Mossberg and the other I can't remember off-hand) and a Remington AR10 also in .308. I prefer(ed) shooting 183 grain bullets.

How many casings do you have? Also, what will you do when those you have can no longer be reloaded?Jeepers, you guys are leaving nothing to chance!
I shoot a 6.5-06. It was a wildcat round gun that my mom had made for my dad as a wedding gift with a Springfield bolt action. I have to hand load because the rounds are not commercially available. Generally shoot Hornady 145 grain ballistic tips. And those feel like overkill for whitetail - about right for mulies.
I shoot my 300 Win Mag with 185 grain rounds for Elk.
This is based on the fact that I'm hunting in LA where deer are smaller (but wayyyyy better tasting than what I grew up with in Michigan, where deer were big) and distances shorter (shots usually under 100 yards, can be out to 200). Keep in mind, I have short arms, so I like shorter barrels/more compact platforms, especially for quick handling/snap shooting:Fodderwing posted that he shoots Cz 527 Carbine in 7.62x39 shooting 123 grain SST bullets and that made me wonder what other deer hunters on this board shoot. On Nalt's CZ note... If I had no scruples in regards to gifts/FCPA stuff, I could have one of each firearm, long, short, whatevs... CZ has made in the last 20 years... for FREE and I LOVE CZ products... it's been tough.... very, very tough. My daily carry is a P-10C.Deet is our resident T-Rex small arms dealer...
