They tore down the Porpoise

The Salty Dog became the regular hang-out for us as well - started going there at halftime as we usually had friends who didn't have tickets that would camp there on game days and have beers and shots ready for us when we got there. :fistbump:

BALLS - that place was a crap hole. Maybe I just set myself up with this one.

Do you remember a kid who worked there named Marc? Went by the nickname Dick Tricks?

Alex.
Hmmm...can't remember a Marc but that doesn't mean he wasn't there when I was. Knew most of them but the only name I ever remember is Stefan.

Forever known as Murderwood.

I lived around the corner in Town Parc at the time... was a weird few weeks.
Very strange indeed... only people that annoyed me were the Guardian Angels out front.

Gator city was always pretty fun

When I was there, Farrah's on the Avenue had awesome wings (they don't anymore). Wednesday night was 10 wings and a REAL pitcher of beer for $4.95! About 15 of us would park at a table around 7 pm and rack up a bill... and take home boxes of wings for late night bonus time!

Funniest thing I remember too was the whole issue of DUI enforcement. Had the GPD/ACSO wanted to rack up DUIs, they only needed to do one thing: sit at the Taco Bell on University at 2 am where the cars stretched about a 1/4 mile back.

I think Farrah's closed recently

Does anyone remember when the Original Sonny's had nickel beer night on Wednesdays?

I lived in Murderwood..I mean Gatorwood too...woke up to yellow tape around the building
We lived in #610 because it was on the third floor and not along wooded fence line. We turned down #1203 because it was first floor and bad fence line... you know the rest. I knew Manny, but not Tracy. One of the guys across the hall from us had dated her and was an ACSO deputy and positively ID'd them after Chris (maintenance guy) went in the apartment.

Another odd coincidence is that Len Register (prosecutor then) and I live in the same neighborhood now in Pace, FL.

CJ's, Rickenbacker's, Wed at the Swamp, Tuesday nights for old wave night at the FL theater...Lillians...I think I saw Less Than Jake for the first time at Fat Tuesdays(not sober). We had some raver friends that would take us to Simon's on occasion. LOL. That was always an adventure.

Good times.

The PP had NTN trivia...I still play that crap.

For those who were there long enough ago.. when Simon's was still called 'innermind' and was members-only through the back alley.

Confirmed on Farrah's wings. Lived in Gainesville for years and never set foot in the place. Then in the mid 90's I moved in with two DPhiEs who waitressed there. Grabbed a few friends and dropped in to see them. Quickly found out they had the best wings in Gainesville.

Wing sauce is mostly butter and a cayenne pepper hot sauce like Crystal or Frank's. Farrah's wings were meaty and always fresh, but what put them over the top was they got the butter side of the wing sauce equation just right. For years after I graduated, we'd go back for homecoming and stake out a window table at Farrah's, and eat wings and drink beer while the homecoming parade went by.

Dammit. Now I'm craving wings and nobody makes good ones anymore.

Alex.

toss wings lightly in flour (maybe 1/4 cup for 3-4lbs of wings).. put them on a smoker at 300oF with a hint of applewood for about 45-60 (turn them at halftime).. toss in some franks wing sauce, sriracha, etc..

Better than any restaurant wing you'll eat.

Dating myself here, but the original Porpoise was out south 441 towards the old Sonny's that is no longer there. At that time it was a locals place and had more of a biker/blue collar type of feel. I'd go there with my roommate who liked to play pool. He almost got in a fight one time with a couple of hairy dudes over a game and we decided we were always going to be outnumbered and never went back.

If I'm not mistaken, the original Eddie C's opened in that building once the Porpoise moved to the University location.
