Free falls scare the hell out of me.It's all about journey my friends...enjoy it...
As I said I have no issue if you want to say McElwain has recruited better, which I think is actually a more damaging statement. He has recruited better, but had the same results. You keep cherry picking situations, but it's going into year three. We have had two straight 100+ ranked offenses. I want to be positive, but we have no reason to be. The best quarterback we have had was marginal with the playcalling against the best defenses, and was above average against the bad ones.
Mac has recruited better on offense... I don't think he has done as well defensively.
I think he has upgraded the talent. I agree play calling has sucked and I have said over and over his lack of a QB is a huge red flag.
I think we are going to be better this year offensively. I don't think we are going to be Top 20, but I think we are probably a Top 50 offense. I think the Oline will be a huge part of that. A good Oline can make an average or young QB much better and I think that will be the case and it will allow Franks to grow and not have to be the superstar.
Of course... I am definitely worried about Nuss as OC and this is the year there has to be a huge jump...IMO
Twice! I have 2 now!
Lack of quarterback going into year 3, is more than a red flag at Florida. QB shouldn't be a question mark at this point, and it is. I agree on a good Oline, a good oline makes a huge difference. But at this point, we might have better offensive talent, but the same results. What have you seen from a schematic statement point, that makes you think we could be in the top 50? We have been playing a horrific SEC East since 2008, and we have been barely a float since 2009. Where do you see this hope?
I'll admit... I'm looking for hope. I am looking for ways for us to be successful so I look for positives and hope they can become trends.
I've seen flashes of our offense looking good when we get good QB play. I think the lack of good QB play has absolutely been the biggest issue and by year 3 this needs to be solved. That means Franks or Trask better be the guy or LDR better surprise us all.
I think back to the Alabama game when if AA just throws a good pass to Callaway we score again instead of throwing a pic. I think about guys running open during lots of games where the QB just didn't see them, couldn't hit them or didn't have time...
I hope that with a good Oline and QB we can resolve a lot of that and score points. Including running the ball better and being more balanced.
Am I looking for the diamonds? Absolutely. Why not... the team is going to be what it is next year and I am happier looking for positives. I also am smart enough to not be surprised if we suck.
QB. Grier vs Mac's pile of trash. No questionMac has recruited better on offense... I don't think he has done as well defensively.
I look at this most like a trend, this trend is more than Butters and Chump... it started with Meyer. It's organizational at this point.
The Alabama game wasn't lost on AA, he actually played a decent game.. .it was lost in scheme. It players who didn't fight for 50/50 balls, when given a chance to fail they found it. It's a mindset, and organizational.
The only positives I can take thus far, is the bowl game was the best called game by Nuss in his two years at Florida. Now the opponent was an average to below average Iowa team, but it was his most complete game. We have an offensive line that should be the most talented in years, and possibly more than one WR who can catch the ball.
The mind set has to change, and I don't know or think McElwain is the coach that can do it. He is our Brady Hoke. A guy who starts to reset the roster, before someone comes in to change the dynamics of the organization (13 of Hoke's players have been drafted the last two years).
Yes.. play calling is still a HUGE issue.
Where does execution come from? I always thought it was directly related to coaching.I'm not saying we win the game if AA plays great.. I think Bama was too good of a team with more talent and that was what cost us the game, but AA threw 3 INTs. Two of those were directly responsible for 10 points early before our defense got worn down. The one that was responsible for the field goal was an under thrown ball to a wide open AC who would have scored... that by itself is a 10 point swing.
Again... I think in the end Bama's talent would have worn us down, but to me... I saw a scheme that could work if executed properly.
Yes.. play calling is still a HUGE issue.
Our defense didnt wear down, it had no depth. No talent behind the first 11.Two of those were directly responsible for 10 points early before our defense got worn down.
No execution and piss poor recruiting has nothing to do with the coaches.Where does execution come from? I always thought it was directly related to coaching.
I agree, but they are just as incompetent at all phases.Probably the MAIN issue...
This whole post is fvkking insanity.Let's look position group by position group... As I see it... he has clearly upgraded 7 spots. QB is TBD depending how Franks plays and trying to factor in Grier's PEDs... Grier was an upgrade over Franks from a talent perspective, but a downgrade because he got suspended... The Slot WR position may be an upgrade or at a minimum a push. Brandon Powell and Goolsby are the only Muschamp guys left.
2015 Offensive Depth Chart Game 1 Starters:
QB: Will Grier or Treon Harris
LT: David Sharpe (SO)
LG: Trip Thurman (SR)
C: Cam Dillard (RSO)
RG: Antonio Riles (RSO)
RT: Mason Halter (RSR)
WR: Demarcus Robinson
WR: Ahmad Fulwood (Callaway didn't start day 1 and he was Mac's recruit anyway)
WR: Brandon Powell
RB: Kelvin Taylor
TE: Jake McGee (R-SR)
2017 Project Depth Chart:
QB: Felipe Franks or LDR (I would say this is a push... probably only area he hasn't clearly upgraded and biggest problem)
RB: Jordan Scarlett (junior) - I think this is an upgrade over KT even though I do think KT was solid.
WR: Antonio Callaway - Clear upgrade over Robinson
WR: Dre Massey - Not sure if this is an upgrade over Powell plus Powell could start here.
WR: Tyrie Cleveland - Clear upgrade over Fulwood - not even close
LT: Martez Ivey (JR) - I'll take Ivey as a JR over Sharpe as a SO
LG: Tyler Jordan (JR) - Jordan is solid and I believe an upgrade over Thurman
C: T.J. McCoy (RSO) - Push? McCoy played well last year, but I haven't seen enough to make a call overall.
RG: Fred Johnson (JR) - Clear upgrade at RB... actually is beating out Riles for this spot.
RT: Jawaan Taylor (SO) - Obvious upgrade
TE: DeAndre Goolsby (SR) - Not an upgrade, but McGee was an addition made by Mac.
you are so damn miserableThis whole post is fvkking insanity.
There isnt a **** hairs difference in any of those players. All are mediocre at best.
My favorite is LDR/Franks "push".
