Was Rousey one of the most (if not the most) overrated fighters in history?

After Rousey got beat down again when she was actually forced to have to deal with some striking I am trying to think if a fighter male or female was ever as overrated and overhyped in the press as much as her. In her 14 fights she only had 2 wins over the same opponent where she didn't slip some average Jane into an armbar for the win in the 1st round of the fight and only has beaten one opponent (Tate) that had any fighting rep at all and most of these wins were in a womens division that was still really thin on depth most of her early career.

I guess people may be dogging her too much because the media overhyped her so much with all the talk that she could beat the men in MMA in her weight division and all that other nonsense but I am just trying to think of something equivalent to this outcome. Maybe all that Michelle Wie golf hype when she was a teenager trying to qualify for Men's tournaments and then she never even became one of the very top women golfers.

I'm hoping that with her massive failure last night and the rampant PED use on the men's side, the sport will die in a hole.

Yep with the size difference and wrestling one year in high school I would be very ashamed if I couldn't pin a female down that size easily. Her only chance would be if I got slipped into a submission hold. Its easy to counteract that Judo stuff she knows if you are a lot stronger and bigger than your opponent and know the basics.

It's hard enough to watch the men pummel each other. I cannot sit there and watch ladies do it. It's flies so hard in the face of how I perceive women I can't handle it. And I mean that as a compliment to women.

Yeah right

lol the comments here remind me of when the press had her beating the world. There is a reason there are men and womens divisions and weight classes. Let her figure out how to beat 140 pound females that can actually fight before having her beating men.

Would it be easier for you to handle if they put aprons on?

Well, she had to progress to better opponents and then she got stopped - twice. There's probably
more future opponents out there who can knock her out. She was over-hyped, yet all that made the
category earn tons of spectators' money. So she, with hype, was greatly beneficial to the sport $.
Recent opponents seem to have shown that Rousey has a "glass jaw"? Roller Derby next?

I think she should get credit for the state of women's MMA. Before she came along it was a weak fledgling sport that She dominated to the point that women came out of the woodwork wanting to be like her. She made that division what it is today. She's a judo specialist in a sport that now has women that will kick some azz. I never liked Rousey mainly because they made her out to be some beauty queen and she's just not that hot. But I'll give her credit where credit is due. She raised the interest in her sport and made it a headline act.

The submission stuff is the X factor if you are not prepared good for it but even in early MMA before everyone learned some defense against those submission holds etc. when the wrestlers finally entered that knew about grappling they were handling those Judo and Brazilian guys as far as take downs and the rest for the most part and once they learned defense they were on equal footing. Now you have the mix of everything and need to know how to fight with your hands also.

You're an idiot.

Men fight and always have. Women have always been above our nonsense. At least until now.
All you had to do was say yes. Better yet, let's give them wooden spoons and rolling pins, too! :law:

I do know one thing. As stupid as the sport of MMA is (and it is STUPID), Ronda Rousey just made $3 million in 48 seconds by getting her ass kicked on national TV. Not a bad gig if you ask me.

It's just where we are as a society when you have enough idiots to watch it to justify that kind of payday.

You realize that Judo is predicated on leverage and actually helps smaller opponents handle larger ones. I've been around guys who could apply choke holds mid throw. I've also seen small women beat women half again there size on the ground by applying arm bars. And a 140 lbs is a lot different than a 105 lb spinner.
