I would usually take the passer anyway. We have RBs to run the ball, unless our offensive coaches are failing.
If you watch Corral play hes a good scrambler that keeps his eyes down field because he'd rather throw than run but he can do it. I also really like his pump fake, he also reads his progressions really well. I wouldn't mind getting him this weekend and just let Fields go because at least then we would know we got one of them. I don't think he's that far behind Fields anyway

Completely agree. Corral might be the best QB on the roster as a True Freshman. He seems extremely advanced as a passer and just seems to have this swagger about him. He would definitely do damage with the weapons we've recruited at the skill positions. I hope he pulls the trigger. It's about damn time we had an ELITE signal caller in Orange and Blue again!

I would be willing to bet the coaches told Fields that he had to make a decision or they were going to go with Corral. Looks like Fields passed.

This is what I was thinking as well.

On a side note there is something about Corral not participating last night that makes me doubt in him a bit. Did he not want to be evaluated side by side with Fields? This was also his chance to bond with the existing UF recruits on the field and he didn't seize the opportunity. Quarterbacks should lead and one of the best ways to do that is by example.

Is it common for elite qb recruits not to participate in camps?

I know he was there and throwing much earlier in the day than Fields was. Fields didnt show up until around 5:30pm. Perhaps there was a reason for that, with Corral, so the coaches could get more individual time with him. Not sure. Ftr, Corral was on campus by Thursday night, and is still there through today.

Not all "bonding" is done on the field, sure that helps I suppose, but at that level of play, it is not like these kids are clueless to who each other are and their abilities. A lot of these kids have competed with each other several times in different events already.

Yes I saw some of the videos of Corral throwing but we didn't see anything with intensity behind it. More pitch and catch stuff is what I saw posted. I would love to see otherwise so our amazing gatorchatter members can break it down frame by frame.

You are absolutely correct that not all bonding is done on the field and the recruits are obviously not clueless as to who he is but Corral is a west coast kid therefore I assume that many of the players have yet to compete against/with him. The obvious exception to that was The Opening but in reality the only Gator recruit in attendance was Clement.

Perhaps I'm biased but I don't think all studs are created equally. A stud from the west coast does not equal a stud from the south east. Admittedly the exception is probably qb.

With all of that said I'm not bashing Corral and hope to see him in Orange and Blue.

with all due respect, I tend to think of the players by the talent they display, not where their parents live

We are all here with a different opinion and it's okay that you disagree.

Let me ask you this, why do coaches always talk about bringing in competition and that iron sharpens iron? It's because the cream rises to the top and there happens to be more cream in the southeast.

Cream
Get on top
Cream
You will cop
Cream
Don't you stop
Cream
Sh-boogie bop

Sorry I felt the need to throw in some Prince.

He didn't throw during the evening session but he was hanging out with all the recruits and bonding.

exactly.
I am thinking the coaches wanted him to throw earlier, not in the main FNL event stuff, and then it was up to Corral to participate in the evening...but he was indeed well in the mix during FNL.
I wonder if they had him throw a lot earlier in the day.

I hope you are right and that the coaches were able to evaluate him in person and not just from film.

Oh i know he threw earlier in the day...several of the twitter sources were there for it...I just don't know to what extent he threw, though it was certainly more than the soft toss he did with some random kid at FNL

Edit: of course now I can't find the tweets

I think they wanted to give him the individual camp attention earlier in the day so that they could give Fields individual camp attention that evening.

Btw Harrison may end up being better than both of them.

Yep if we could get one of Corral/Fields then follow up with Bailey that would be huge...though we thought getting Brantley following Tebow and Newton was huge...

I think he probably could have been. But the coaching staffs were so bad they ruined him. Not to take away from the fact that they tried to turn him into an option QB.

I was making a comment in general, I want a passer not a dual threat.

Between the two, Fields and Corral, I consider Corral more of the passer.

Id prefer to have an OL that meant we never or rarely learned if a kid has scrambling ability.

:headslap:

I remember hearing Matthews say that Brantley's footwork had gotten terrible and he was worse as a junior in college than in HS.

Creyer's first offensive staff was terrible top to bottom. No wonder we had so many QBs, Wrs, and Rbs doing nothing or only contributing sparingly.
