If you guys dont actually think mac would be fine starting LDR if the other guys dont clearly look better and have as good of a grasp of the playbook, you're kidding yourselves. He's a stubborn dude, and goshdarnit, it doesnt matter what we saw on tv, he thinks LDR is a decent qb.
If you want someone else to start, you better hope that someone else emerges as the clear front runner. If what we see in fall camp is more ho hum, nobody is really doing anything special to pull away, and LDR is included in that group, LDR is going to be the one trotting out.
I hate it, but its much more likely than mac saying, all things otherwise being equal, lets throw the kid whos never played a snap in, or the kid whos never played a snap for the gators in before they throw the kid in with game experience and who was 5-1. I promise you this is how mac and nuss see things. Because its how most any coach would see things.
I suspect that Mac and Nuss will practically be looking for reasons to start LDR unless someone consistently outshines him in practice. That's pretty much what happened last year with Appleby and LDR competing for the starting job. Many coaches have a tendancy to repeat their actions, a lot of times out of ego or stubbornness. Take Muschamp, for example. He's pretty much doing the same things at USCe as he did at UF. Only the best coaches change and adapt.
I'm not going to assume McElwain will change his thinking and actions until I see it for myself. Yes McElwain changed/improved some things in his recruiting recently, but he decided to retain Nuss and Nord, and that right there is evidence towards his stubbornness. We really need to hope that Zaire and/or Franks clearly outperform LDR by a large margin.
