If you guys dont actually think mac would be fine starting LDR if the other guys dont clearly look better and have as good of a grasp of the playbook, you're kidding yourselves. He's a stubborn dude, and goshdarnit, it doesnt matter what we saw on tv, he thinks LDR is a decent qb.

If you want someone else to start, you better hope that someone else emerges as the clear front runner. If what we see in fall camp is more ho hum, nobody is really doing anything special to pull away, and LDR is included in that group, LDR is going to be the one trotting out.

I hate it, but its much more likely than mac saying, all things otherwise being equal, lets throw the kid whos never played a snap in, or the kid whos never played a snap for the gators in before they throw the kid in with game experience and who was 5-1. I promise you this is how mac and nuss see things. Because its how most any coach would see things.

I suspect that Mac and Nuss will practically be looking for reasons to start LDR unless someone consistently outshines him in practice. That's pretty much what happened last year with Appleby and LDR competing for the starting job. Many coaches have a tendancy to repeat their actions, a lot of times out of ego or stubbornness. Take Muschamp, for example. He's pretty much doing the same things at USCe as he did at UF. Only the best coaches change and adapt.

I'm not going to assume McElwain will change his thinking and actions until I see it for myself. Yes McElwain changed/improved some things in his recruiting recently, but he decided to retain Nuss and Nord, and that right there is evidence towards his stubbornness. We really need to hope that Zaire and/or Franks clearly outperform LDR by a large margin.

Or that LDR just can't go. I think of the two, that is the more likely scenario. I really think its a high probability that if LDR is recovered and competing with the others, that its not likely you will see either of the others clearly outperform him. We know the deal with franks, he just doesn't seem to have a head above his cannon arm, and there's a reason zaire has been in college for forever and has only played a few games. He's another grad transfer, it is what it is.

Mac needs to be fired on the spot if he starts LDR against that blitz crazy Michigan defense. I cant even image the results if he tried that. And yet if he had a choice to make between LDR and Franks due to Zaire twisting his ankle or something like that he probably would start LDR.

Is he on the field now?

With a QB who hasn't been on the field since last October, no matter how good or bad, and a QB who just transferred in, either are going to need every damn snap just to get ready. The decision will have to made really damn soon.

If LDR isn't ready to go RIGHT NOW I don't know how you could play him.

Franks isn't really in the conversation. You people are silly if you think he is.

No that's how confident I know he won't start. Toney is a better QB than LDR, at least he won't pull a Brantley and assume the fetal position on every blitz package. Zaire will start with Franks getting snaps in the 4th.

Still too far IMO

Well if LDR is lucky he will have time to do his common run to the sideline if the blitz only comes from one side.

This is how I'm thinking. I still think Mac owes del Rio sr for a few buffet dinners to play LDR.

One thing I don't like is this coach speak of "we can't tell the difference between QB's yet".

I think that's amateur. I feel like the cons out weigh the pros.

So maybe you can surprise some teams by them not knowing who the QB is for a few games. Or you can coach up your QB to play better and have that advantage. Besides, once everyone sees LDR throw a few interceptions a game, does it matter that you didn't reveal the starter until the 3rd quarter of the 1st game?
If your doing it to "motivate" your QB's to step up, wouldn't it be better to have a clear starter and say this is what it will take to get the starting job. If I'm a QB and my competition is equally bad, I just have to be a bit better than them. But if my competition is clearly defined, i know what I need to work on to take that position.

I don't know if I expressed myself correctly, but this "everyone QB is equal right now, and yet, gosh golly, gee whiz, yuck, yuck, yuck...we can't tell them apart because we don't know what a good QB looks like" indicates deception and a lack of confidence.

And I'm a Mac supporter

It isn't even close. Del Taco will be the starter. The QB race is for who will come off the bench first.
