Sirius question:

Which guy would you rather start fresh with right now, Mullen or Muschamp?
I would take muschamp. Atleast when he gets fired in 3 years we'll have some studs on defense. Mullens gonna leave it like mac or worse.

Muschamp may be stubborn, but he's no dummy. I wouldn't yet bet against him becoming a decent head coach. The man can recruit.
Muschamp is a dummy and will always be mediocre at best. He's never gonna give an oc enough freedom. He's an overrated dc whos way to conservative on offense.

At the risk of provoking the Donkey...

I heard Doug Johnson give an interesting take on the Franks-Trask choice. He said something to the effect that he’d rather try the guy with no experience who looks as good as the guy with a season of college and several HS seasons than the guy with all the experience who cannot clearly beat out the guy with no experience. (Not just the O&B game. He saw many practices.)

I’m not sure he’s right but it was interesting.

And I’m leery of advice from Doug who, frankly, didn’t live up to his potential at UF. Then he went to the Falcons and started working at it.

He's an underrated insurance agent.

“When you’ve got good players all around, you’ve got a good system and these guys are well-coached and practice extremely well, then you’ll have success on the field. Everybody is different. Coaching is different. A lot of people think the players decide the game, but really the plan and the way they are coached on the practice field is extremely important.”

Wow. What a burning indictment on the last two staffs.

Beating a bunch of hacks by 2-6 points then failing to score an offensive touchdown versus a terrible ugly then getting blown out by a midmajor in a nothingburger bowl isn't a pretty good season.

True but pre-bowl we were a USC upset v ND away from making the BCSCG where we probably would have got pounded unless the defense held up the whole game.

It definitely falls short an endorsement. Turns out Steve was holding his nose for two years straight.

As the cliche goes, It's all about our big uglies up front. These guys must quit this ballroom dancing, just get in the way attitude of the lost decade and make natural a game time bad azz demeanor. We could be a 4th Qtr runaway Freightliner truck if our upfront guys could grow a pair <see stable of RBs -> :waiting:>
Just saying.

Meyer was a can’t miss hire, despite what “not in the know” message board posters were saying in 2004/2005. Anybody that was watching closely watching football in the early 2000s could see this.
I remember the debates on if Myers Spread, option, read offense would work in the SEC. Didn't seem like a "can't miss" hire to many.

I hate the term can't-miss. There is no such thing with a young up-and-comer of a coach.

Meyer wasn't can't-miss but he probably had earned likely-can't-fail status. He had done it multiple places. He had a tremendous resume. The Patton lite football personality screamed leader. Right Stuff guy.

I was very dialed in. I don't recall a single member of the state or national media questioning the intelligence of us wanting him. Notre Dame salivating made him all the more desirable.

Franks and Trask are not the answer. Yes, Trask is a better passer but lacks experience and Franks might run a little better but has scrambled eggs for brains. I hope Mullen can make at least one of them serviceable until EJ is ready or Mullen decides to play EJ and take the knocks that comes with it. We cant stand another whole season of Franks as our starter but at the same time we don't want EJ killed in the first season.

Meh, 2018 will be one prolonged scrimmage. We should petition the SEC to not track the score in our games.
