Yeah, Fooley being a pvssey with respect to Graham and Dockett is one of his top 10 failures.
Other AD's were ripping on Spurrier, treating him like he was a butthurt baby. Foley, instead of coming to the defense of the coach who had won a Heisman and taken the program to the mountaintop, basically agreed with the other AD's. Spurrier split for the pros soon after.

Foley spitting in Spurrier's face 3 years later when we had a job opening couldn't have helped, either. "Send in your resume and we'll consider it, coach."

A few weeks ago, Florida State athletic director Dave Hart called a news conference specifically to address Spurrier's allegations -- that Dockett tried to hurt Graham and Grossman, and that Seminoles coaches might actually teach their players to play dirty.

"It would probably be good if somebody just spanked him and put him to bed and hope he wakes up all grown up," Hart said of Spurrier then.
Foley didn't come to Spurrier's defense at all.

I still can't believe Illinois fired him. For all his faults, he did better than anyone else has with that program in recent history.
I'm an Illini fan. Zook had one good year at Illinois and it was likely a fluke. He had two winning seasons out of 7 and finished with a 34-51 record (18-38 in the Big10ish). I think that's cause for termination - mediocre team in a mediocre league, lead by a mediocre coach.
Illinois Fighting Illini (Big Ten Conference) (2005–2011)
2005 Illinois 2–9
2006 Illinois 2–10
2007 Illinois 9–4
2008 Illinois 5–7
2009 Illinois 3–9
2010 Illinois 7–6
2011 Illinois 6–6

Coaches before Zook:
Mike White (80-87) 47-41-3
Jon Mackovic (88-91) 30-16-1
Lou Tepper (91-96) 25-31-2 (still better than the Zooker)
Ron Turner (97-04) 35-57 (Zook-like numbers)
Tim Beckman (2012-14) 12-25 (a little worse than the Zooker)

I was developing this great argument against your statement, but you're actually right. The Illini did no better 15 years before Zook or 4 years since. But he wasn't taking that team anywhere and it was obvious 4 years after the fluke Rose Bowl appearance, so they tried someone different.

No surprise that the same people who love Fooley still love some Zook.

And please tell us how you seem to know the truth? Been pal-ing around with these guys lately? You don't know that your "truth" is any more true than my "truth".

Foley embarrassed Spurrier during the Dockett fiasco, prompting his sudden exit. I doubt he's forgotten it.
I know for a fact they've vacationed together more than once since then. Don't know about you, but I don't spend my vacations with people I don't like.

Their wives have remained friends. Their disdain for one another is no secret, and it remains to this day.

Link?

It wouldn't surprise me if they actually come to blows before Foley is escorted out of the building for good.
No link. I know someone who's been on trips with them.

Foley wasn't perfect. But overall he may be the best AD out there. Those that wanted him fired are insane.

Zook was a bad hire and a bad coach. But your options are limited in January, and he was a hell of a recruiter and set up Meyer for 2 national championships. People also forget Zook teams beat some of the best teams in the nation. He just couldn't win the ones he was supposed to especially teams in MS

Muschamp turned out to be a dud but on paper he was a good hire. Nobody bats a thousand on these hires. And all these homer fans who think we can just go hire anybody we want because we are FL are delusional. Successful coaches at top programs rarely leave to go somewhere else. How many years did Bama go before getting a good hire?

Look at 3 FB national championships 2 basketball and one of the top 5 multiathtletic programs year in and year out. But that isn't good enough for our spoiled baby brat fans.

Hell I remember Gator fans wanting Spurrier out. Said he couldn't recruit and his best days were behind him. They wanted Meyer gone after his drama and a mediocre season. Year after year they wanted Donovan gone after a streak of one and dones in the tourney. Spoiled baby brats.
