Smart had 3 or 4 freshmen playing OL last year and has started a true freshman QB both years.
Butterteeth inherited two 4 star QBs and similarly fvkked up OL and a defense stuffed w NFLers. So yeah, we agree that Smart had it much, much rougher.
On the the OL, yes the situation Smart had was bad, but not on the same level as ours. Having 5 scholarship linemen post Spring is on a different level.
On the QBs, yes we had two 4*'s on paper. Grier was a legit ranking and showed signs of promise before being busted for PED's midseason. Treon was a "4* QB/Athl" like many of these kids who rely on athleticism in HS. That typically has a shelf life at this level and he was a prime example. Not to mention in his 2 seasons here, I'm not sure he ever went more than 5 games or so without some form of legal issue and/or suspension. I'd take a grad transfer and 5* who actually played an entire year over the mess we had in 2015. But admittedly, that's subjective and somewhat splitting hairs.
Bottomline, uga canned their HC in 2015 because they felt they had hit a wall of 9-10 win seasons. We fired WM because he was an absolute clown who had us circling the drain, at 4 and 6 wins in his final 2 years. There's a reason Richt was being interviewed the following week and was quickly snatched up by another P5 team, while WM was immediately relegated to a coordinator role, before begging his way into a second chance opportunity where no one else wanted to go.
In any event, I've already said that regardless of initial starting point, Smart has his team firing on all cylinders, which in 2.5 seasons, JM has yet to accomplish. So it's really moot at this point.
