McElwain is 10-2 this year at Colorado State. Coached under Saban from 2008-2011, part of two national title winning teams, 52 years old. Colorado State was 4-8 before his arrival, they're 22-16 since he's been there.

So 7.5 over a few years, wouldn't be that much to bite off, and would make sense if the annual salary isn't as much as another candidate.
