It's funny you say that, because most people call EC, along with Buffalo Trace, quintessential classic bourbon. Just funny how can people's tastes can differ.

Wow. BT, I could see. It's good, but would be hard for me to pick it out of a crowd. But Elijah Craig is completely different. Would not have guessed that.

In a proper tasting the pallette must be cleansed between each taste
Agreed, but taste buds get desensitized. In fact, I enjoy drinking super high proof and then dropping into lower ranges. You get crazy notes that you never would before. Got strawberry off Buffalo Trace that way

Did you have a store pick? Those can get funky.

I just drove 8 hours from Greenville, SC to Ocala and am now decompressing with some Bulleit bourbon. I drove the backroads instead of I-95. It took an hour longer but it was much less stressful than swapping paint at 80 MPH

If you can find it Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is like the small batch, but amped up. I've been lucky enough to find a couple bottles and picked them up.

My quintessential bourbon is still Stagg Jr.

I turned 50 in April and opened up a bottle of George T. Stagg, I had, which is a high end barrel proof. First couple pours were just ok. But the last glass I had, after it had oxidized a couple months, is fantastic. I decided it's not worth the premium over Stagg Jr.

Stagg Jr is very good if you can find it. My nephew finds it for me on occasion as I never see it in my area.

I picked up some EC 22yoa in Kentucky years ago. Big flavor, but not for the faint of heart at 134

Once you get a taste for the barrel proofs it's hard to go back to anything proofed down.

Well done sir, suddenly I have a thirst

The Weller is really good. Its got quite a bit of heat and spice for being wheated...but the 107 proof point makes a big difference. I think as an every day drink I prefer the Makers 46 and Wilderness Trail wheat...but I'll see how things change if its chilled or iced. Haven't broken into the Old Forester yet. Im a little skeerd of it.

I have a nephew that sends me the Antique or the green label Weller now and then. I like both. A lot. Last time he sent the Stagg... I’m trying for more, lol
Makers 46 is a bit sweet for me, I am more of a 101 every day guy. Or beam, damn that stuff is cheap, :) But different tastes give us variety.

I began a 28 day cleanse 18 days ago. Ten days to go and trying to decide what to celebrate with when it's over. Feel free to suggest a good single malt scotch or a barrel proof bourbon.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Rare Breed if you can’t find ECBP
