Based on sideline interactions, I think he and Jones are pretty tight. He's not going to stay and take away from Jones' chance at the limelight imo. Besides, I'm pretty sure I saw something on facebook this morning stating that Trask would play in the bowl game even though he's declared for the draft. Don't think he can return once he's already declared, right?

He has until a deadline date in January to fully declare. So up until then he can change his mind

I think if Trask comes back next year, his numbers will be worse but he'll be more ready for a long and successful career in the NFL (assuming no major injury).


Bill Parcells had a famous formula for drafting QBs:

• Be a three-year starter
• Be a senior in college
• Graduate from college
• Start 30 games
• Win 23 games
• Post a 2-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio
• Complete at least 60 percent of passes thrown

Of course, things have changed a bit since then (more games played per season, the TD-INT ratio is a little low given modern offenses, maybe 3-1 should be the bottom limit, and the senior thing is dated).

It's not on the list, but Parcells also liked tall QBs with strong arms.

As you can see, the criteria focus on experience, accuracy, and good decision making. You don't get experience carrying a clipboard on the sideline.

Measured against these criteria, Trask compares to Joe Burrow. Burrow didn't start enough and neither did Trask. The QBs who met all elements of the criteria last year were Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts.

These criteria aren't perfect, Brady, Roethlisberger, and Aaron Rogers didn't meet all the points, though they came close. The criteria do help weed out the Haskins and Trubiskys of the world.

I really wonder where the truth lies, as I suspect most are correct. Kyles sample size is one full year, and I think he improves his stock by staying. I would bet the full time college starter HAS to be on his mind, wonder if he reaches out to Tim for advice? This was Kyles first year since ?? as “the man”. Interesting enough, do we have a legit shot at the National Ship next year with him returning. I truly believe Dan thinks he has a better shot with Emory (dont call me crazy) and wouldn’t be surprised if we have a Mac/Grier situation on our hands. This could get interesting..

Regardless of whether he took advantage of it in a spectacular way or not, he must grasp that there are no guarantees in college even if he stays one more year. Injuries or getting beat out again for the position could be devastating for him.

Three touchdowns, 408 passing yards at a 65% completion rate, a rushing TD in a SEC championship game against one of the best teams on both sides of the ball in college football history. Not to mention he is leading the nation in total passing yards and TDs for the year. These are statistics that can make an outrageous future for him and his loyalty to the Gators will never be forgotten. Yet he cannot think of what can be; he must move on for the reality of what is.

If he asked me I would tell to opt out of the bowl and start getting ready for the combine. He has been a perfect Gator, had an epic season and deserves nothing but respect. Slight chance he goes in the 1st round, if not early 2nd. Go get your money son!

The current climate for bowls is bullshyt. Nobody cares unless it is a playoff. He has nothing to gain.

For him to stick around and lead his team in an "also-ran" bowl game shows he is a team player. The NFL will take note of this. He should have his degree by now. For him to come back next year is foolish. Doubtful that his draft stock will improve from what it is now. Time to look out for himself.

Trask has had a history with injury. He needs to go get paid, losing Pitts, Toney, and Grimes this year is 1000 times worse than losing Jefferson, Cleveland, and Swain last year. The WR group next season will be weaker.

The Mitch Trubisky experiment is still very much on the minds of NFL teams. The Bears traded up one spot to #2 overall to take a guy with only 13 collegiate starts, looking past Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in the process. Trubisky, with lots of physical skills, regressed after a solid second season. He still struggles to read NFL coverages in his fourth year in the league.

Hence one of the reasons why I think Trask needs another year to move up to the first round — his relative lack of experience. Teams are wary of being next to make that kind of mistake.

As always, you weigh the risk with the return.

I'm not certain that Trask reads defenses either. Mullins passing games are super simple. by the time the motion guy moves and lets the quarterback know most of what he needs to know about the defense there's usually only one or two reads and the routes are usually pretty simple. Combos are very rare.

Not saying you are all wrong, but you haven't been right about Trask yet. I tend toward empiricism-- and 43-5 is an empirical implication that he ain't too shabby reading defenses.

I was just as wrong about a kid being able to sit out and catch up with the speed of the game as four or five hundred top coaches. there will never be another most likely.

we will see when his pro scouting reports come out.

Driscoll was 11- 1 once. that's not emperical evidence of anything.
