I'm going to try my best not to hold the first year against him in any way. Hell, Meyer struggled in his first season, so did Saban who lost to Louisiana Monroe at Bryant Denny for Christs sake. The first year is all about building, not the record.

yeah, looking at the schedule and roster. Anything over .500 is gravy.

McElwain also proved that UF does not naturally recruit.

I agree that McElwain is not the ideal guy to recruit, but he signed Pitts, Toney and Trask, not to mention Cleveland, Swain, Chauncey, Franks, Moon, Perine, Zuniga, Scarlett, Callaway, Polite, Jawaan Taylor, Forsythe, Pinero, Slaton, Carter, Henderson, Wilson, S. Davis, M. Davis, Gamble etc.

Not to mention five and high four star guys who did not work out like Ivey, Jefferson, Clayton, Robinson etc. And not to mention good college players who were not greatly rated but were productive to very productive at UF like Heggie, Reese, Miller, Hammond etc.

So we are really saying the same thing. UF naturually recruits and if a coach does a decent job at UF he will get players. That is why UF currently has a good roster. That is why UF does not need a Zook, but rather needs a Spurrier or Meyer, ie someone who can coach along with recruit.

Anything less than second in the SEC East and we will have much to worry about this guy. I fear he will be like Zook who inherited Spurrier's program and acted like he needed a total rebuild. UF is not Spurrier's program today, but it has a supremely talented QB prospect, some highly rated RBs, plenty of receiver, decent OL and DL returners and prospects, one highly promising CB and a promising S coming back. What did UF in this year was errors particularly special teams errors and going into a shell on defense.

So many of these coaches dream of being hired as a head guy and imagine they are taking over a program that has been 4-8 or worse for half a decade. That has not been the situation at UF since Ray Graves got the job. So Napier needs to take the talent he has, coach it up and go at least 6-2 in the SEC and 4-0 out of conference his first year.

What?

We DO need a total rebuild. Zook taking over in 2001 is NOTHING like Napier taking over now. The cupboard is bare.

Sober up.

Guy has only been on the payroll about 4 hours and he's already reaching out to recruit. And probably has to do with more on availability and location with his busy schedule for this week. Probably will do more recruiting this week than Mullett did over half this football season. Go and recruit.

He has probably already called each of the committed and a few top targets.

Wife's from Lafayette. Family has season tickets. Been to a few of Napier's games and witnessed his O-style. Spurrier was obviously not involved with this hire. On the positive side, You'll have plenty of time for beer runs while the Gators are running the ball. Nothing against Napier; just not my kind of football. Hope it works. GO Gators!

I like our RBs but we lose at least 4 off a weak OL. hard to run with no OL.

Our receivers are trash.

TEs promising.

DL, hell the entire defense is thin at anything except edge rush/end backer hybrid.

LB whehhhhhh a mess. Maybe Hopper can put on weight and work inside he has the best noses for the ball carrier. I like Diabeetus but he is an outside LB. Maybe Chief (not sure he's fast enough) or Wingo (seems more space player, instincts not good inside).

I actually love our DBs. A new scheme will fix all those problems.

Insti is famous for not knowing shtt about the roster, looking at it, just reading names, including walkons etc, and saying we should be fine at OL or whatever because we have three 300 lb walkons that also play tuba in the band.

This isn't new. he was doing it in 2013 too.

Not saying he’s going to blow the doors off the place in year 1, but I think Napier could do pretty well the first year. I think he’ll start Richardson and build a much improved staff.

Schedule is tougher next year, but if AR is healthy the whole year, I think he'll do fine next year. I just hope he's cleaning up on in state recruiting. We need to take back this state, it's been there for the taking and we've failed to be able to do that.

Demanding he go 10-2 in his first season is horse chit. Neither Meyer nor Spurrier did that. Mullen and Butters did. What this program needs desperately is to be rebuilt by someone who knows how to do that. We are in year 12 of sucking in case you missed it.

Great QB play can win a lot of games alone. If AR plays lights out, this Gator team could easily make some noise next year.

SEC East is soooooooo much easier now.

UT - yet another HC after Heupel bolts here in the next few days

UK - new QB

SC - Forrest Beamer the motivational speaker? No threat, and he may bolt for VT for the right price to follow daddy.

MIZ - glib dweeb HC that is going to get it pushed in deep on him, sooner than later

Vandy - actually the right coach and will improve for their standards

I was going to make a similar post til I saw yours. AR could make our average to bad WRs look better just with his scrambling ability. Guys will come open. Like Law said The East is not that difficult. We are a dumpster fire and we could still easily finish second in the East next year. I hate this hire but we could still win the east if we had several breaks fall our way next year.
