Ok, many love this place for the ability to be negative if warranted. But,...the other side of that that is that I really dislike being made fun of or verbally attacked...even hyena-like ganged up on for being positive about ANYTHING. There is nothing wrong with attempting to be positive in the face of bad situations...and we've had plenty. I realize everyone has their own way of coping. Go gnaw on each other and have your pity parties and leave people who try to be a little positive alone.
I didn't realize your name was karen

Ox, a few of us have been here from the start and before........:brad:, right Brad??

About Napier. But before I address that let me say that I think that Stickland may have seen the light (self preservation). Napier is not one to shy away from asking. Napier hit UF and Strickland at the right time with the right demands. We'll see how they pay off. It is just refreshing to see a coach WORKING for his check. I was skeptically optimistic with the Mullen hire and supported it fully. I still to this day feel that if the Giraffe had not broken an ankle at UK, Trask would have never, ever seen the field. But DM lost me at LSU last year. Back to Napier....fans are worried no big time exp., run heavy offense, and so on. What I think will be different with him is if he sees something that will work, he'll go with it. Looking at his QB last Saturday. I may not have been calling the passing game alot. But a couple of things I would like for him to do. Be TOUGH on each LOS. Don't take the foot off the gas on an opponent EVER! Win what he should, steal some he shouldn't, and recruit the best players. If he can get what he wants, UF will be ok. I am fine with this hire and will fully support him as he is our Coach. Nothing would please me more for him to be here a long time and win some championships along the way..

Now about the board. That was a great post and glad to see everyone jumping in. I don't think that you were driving the board that way. We wanted to come here, have a place to vent, place to cheer, and to call it like we see it. And you've done that. Some handle the bashing in different ways. When it gets personal or over the line, that's it. You and the Mods handle it accordingly. The perspective of the ones on this board would rival any other. I for one am glad the Chatter is up and running. I remember when the GSMB went coocoo and we had no place to go. I have been here ever since. If we could put up with Alvin York, we'll be just fine.

I'm on board with this board, the hire, and the Gators! I really don't think I'm pumping here but I can remember back to Doug Dickey. I think we have us a pretty good coach. And this board will be a good place to hang out talking about it.

This board has a Culture where negative comments are all most expected and it’s easy to get caught up in and become part of this culture.
I would never dream of calling some one a fuctard or banging their mom on another board but here it’s the norm.
I,m a pumper on any new Coach until they prove me wrong. I’v been hounded and calls names here for supporting a Coach someone doesn’t like, but what really irks me is for someone not to give the new guy a chance to succeed.

You ever thought of creating a “ROOM OF DOOM” where overly negative or foul comments could be moved to?
It’s your show Ox King ,you have a lot of Great Gators that come here that love the Gators but you have MANY more that stay away because of all the bitchen that gos on here.

It's not. I'm just willing to accept crap like that because I think there are others here who feel the same way but don't want a target on them. I'll just tell you to go f yourself....if necessary.

If you go to a sports bar you can't throw chairs around or try to burn the place down, there are rules... but the camaraderie AND the different opinions are both part of the experience. I'd prefer to hear what everybody has to say without the conversation needing to be "guided" in any particular direction. Opinions change with new information and most of us don't believe half of what we post anyway. All of that just makes it fun.

The thing I have liked most about this place is that it's full of amazing content but it doesn't take itself too seriously. As for Swamp Donkey in particular, he can be insufferable but he's one of the most supportive posters on here... I bet the guy has given out 100k "likes", even when he doesn't agree with you. If anything, I'd like to maybe see the group be a little more receptive to new voices and new posters, especially the ones with different viewpoints. Adds a bit of "texture" to the place. Just my 0.02.

This board is not negative. It lives in the present, not stuck in some delusional honeymoon phase with every coach until he gets the boot or leaves. We deal in reality here. And right now, the reality is that we are in the honeymoon phase. Things are really good, there's every reason to believe that Coach Napier is going to bring us back for real, and I'm in no mood to listen to whining and bitching about the program when there's no reason for it.

All that said, Ox, I think the ignore button will suffice. If you start leaving it up to one person to decide who gets banned and who doesn't, possibly based on that one person's mood at that moment, that's just not a good thing.

Sad but it’s true. I brought him here he lasted about a day he couldn’t take the Mullen hate.

Well then it is clear that this person knew Zip_A _dee_doo _DAH about football then. B/c Cousin Eddie sucked AZZ. I guess I was the problem being that I said he was a dypshyt hire from Day 1. Yes blame it on me and the few who agreed.

I guess I am part of the problem that you are talking about, Ox. I am sincerely apologetic if I caused you any stress at all. I just didn't like the hire and I like the way you made this board a safe place to say almost anything you want. Or an unsafe place where you can say anything almost. I'm not asking for a ban. But if you banned Law, idk man I guess maybe I will take a break too. Donk is my favorite poster on this board. I get it why you did it. I just thought we were being real. Not negative..I understand why you are saying it's negative though. It does look that way. Idk I'm just kind of blown away by all this...Go Gators!

My take is you pretty much answered your own questions. But WTH, I’ll weigh in too.

Negative Nellies here? Sure and not without some justification. Some unhappy no matter what? Sure; for better or worse this is a bunch of individuals who freely (thanks to you I might add) speak their collective minds.

I freely admit to not liking the three previous hires, but getting suckered into thinking they might work out anyway. By the time of the last one (Mullen), I was jaded enough to be slower to come around, but at some point early last season totally buying in. Of course the LSU game turned me the other way and Kentucky this year was the end. Mrs G actually had to talk me into going to the Vandy game (and I love going to the games) and if our son wasn’t a student I seriously doubt she would have been successful.

Most of us all had a preferred candidate (and some of us apparently despised anyone who was not that guy). Mine was Lincoln Riley. I thought we needed a whale and he was both that and guy who would give us possibly the best offense since SOS.

The hiring of CBN bothered me only because I thought once again we had gone cheap and we were doomed to 3-4 years of same old, same old. Perhaps I’ve been fooled again, but I like seeing the structural changes he’s making and how seriously he is taking recruiting. As he is now our head ball coach, alea iacta est (as Caesar might say were he a Gator fan); so I’m now a Napier fan and will believe this hire is going to be different. And due to the messy roster the previous guy left behind, we may need to be patient. Having said that, there will be bytching from some folks along the way; I fully admit I’d be disappointed if there wasn’t.

As for GCMB, I think I probably said this last year in the “state of the board” thread, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This place may be viewed as “negative” around Gator Nation, but do we really care? (I get why you Ox might, but don’t think you do either.)

Oh and Swonk? A hundred Oxbucks says he’ll be back. Where else would he go? He’s a junky and this place is his crack. (FTR - I too often find him tiresome, but he’s clever, funny, and knowledgeable on quite a number of topics. He’s also arrogant as hell, but then he’s an attorney, so that’s to be expected.)

For those who missed it, here was Donk's post to me, completely unprovoked and out of the blue this morning:

This is a guy who needs a break. He's not a happy guy right now, and I'm sure it has nothing to do with football.

Well then, perhaps Law had grown tired that the Fuhrer had not come out of the closet, so he took it upon himself? I don;t know, just a thought?

I consider myself to be cautiously optimistic. I think Napier is what we need but it's gonna be a slower build. Let's let him hire a staff and coach some games before we make a decision.

One more thing since I've now read all the comments. To anybody that has stayed away from the board because of negativity just put Swonkey on ignore. I think you'll find that half the negativity and 95% of the badgering is from him. Some of us enjoy his shtick but if it's not for you I think you'll find the board much more tolerable with him on ignore.

I used to post some, not a lot before. The negativity around here is why I took a sabbatical. I always lurked at times, but never really got back into posting. I still see negative crap on here.

I’m in no way saying there aren’t times when we, as Gator lovers, should be upset or pissed off about some certain things. But, when it’s all the time after something goes wrong it gets a bit much. Perfect point, BB team has been doing good. It’s been successful so far in the early season. But some poster lost their mind after the last loss and started a Fire Mike White thread.

Really? We all have to remember one thing, these athletes are still kids. They are bound to slip up and make mistakes. Coaches are also human and cannot be perfect or coach perfectly every time. None of the programs are going to win every game. Sure, we can expect perfection. But if you live your life expecting perfection, the let downs are going to be ten times harder on you.

I may catch flack or negative comments for posting this but I’m being honest. Honestly, if I do it will just go to prove my point about expectations. Thought I’d step out of the lurker bushes to post my .02. Maybe I should nestle back in and stay there!

Dude, Mike White does need to be fired. He's well past his expiration date. Did you continue to support Muschamp after the Ga Southern fiasco? I know, I know....there were a bunch of injuries. smh Otherwise, solid post.
