I dont really think he was and I really think muLLLLLLen has received way too much credit for being a developer of QBs.

But even if you ascribe success to the talents and work ethic of Alex Smith, Leak, Tebow, Dak, etc., if you pop Emory into that list of QBs Mullen has mentored, he’s pretty much at the bottom of it. He’s no Nick Fitzgerald, for example, despite the raw talent and apparent fit for Mullen’s typical QB. He’s a turnover machine.

That said, I do think Mullen gave up or gave out sometime after the 2020 SECCG and that had to hurt Emory and everyone.

@PeteThamel: Source: Florida’s Emory Jones has informed Florida coaches that he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal today.

I didn't think he'd leave until after he got his diploma. Maybe that'll be a condition if someone tries to pull him out of the portal, they have to let him graduate first? Dunno, seems weird timing.

He'll probably finish the semester as a UF student, but no need to practice with the team if you know you're going to leave anyway. At least, that's what he's probably thinking. He should have finished spring ball just for the coaching and reps, but he probably got discouraged that AR was out-performing him and will be the starter.

Him and AR were throwing the ball at the same time. ARs receiver was catching the ball about the time EJ was releasing his. He probably told himself he was wasting everyones time. I like EJ as a person and as a gator but he just isnt starter material. Good luck young man.

I think that AR might not have been the only QB outperforming him in practice so he made the right decision.

I wish him all the best!!

Must mean Del Rio is lighting it up

I think this is exactly what happened. Not only is he not 2nd on the depth chart, he is looking at third. CDR looked good in the videos I've seen. By that I mean he has a cannon for an arm and a lightning quick release. We already know he is athletic.

Best of luck to Emory. I’ve been maybe his biggest fan and definitely his harshest critic. Always been a standup kid that repped the O&B well. From a student athlete standpoint, he’s one of the good stories. Wish him the best wherever life leads him.

Multiple coaches from Arizona State followed Jones on social media in the wake of the news. Arizona State has one of the thinnest quarterback rooms among Power Five schools. Other schools that did the same were North Texas, Akron, Arkansas State and Rice.

He quit on us no later than the LSU game that year. When there were no consequences dealt to Marco Wilson for the shoe toss, I knew Mullen didn't give a crap anymore.
