I really don’t see how they could’ve prevented this. Maybe some type of trust that gets paid out later to all athletes, but again, that would create it’s own logistics problems. As I mentioned with my Saddam reference, they were a lesser of two evils. Once dollar one was allowed to be exchanged it was over.
I don't necessarily think they would have stopped it from happening, but the momentum for this started back when they started suspending college athletes that were in the Olympics because of sponsorships, probably even before that for autograph suspensions and such. There were so many things they could have done. They could have put in salary caps based on sport, said X amount of the revenue each school earns goes to the athletes evenly, had trust funds like you said that all revenue sharing, autograph, jersey money, etc went into they could access after leaving school. I just think they could have curtailed it by putting rules in place up front that kept pay for play from happening instead of waiting until the courts said its now open season.

I know this will probably be an unpopular take, but this whole thing has ruined it for me. Between the open transfers and the huge deals - I just really don't care.

I loved college football because (maybe only in my mind) it was about guys who loved the same place I loved, chasing their dreams and at worst ending up with a degree of which we're all proud. I just don't care nearly as much as I did.

I don't think its stupid to be just as passionate about it - hell, I wish I could be. I always looked forward to the season all summer. Maybe when I flip on the week 0 game, I'll get it back - but I'm not so sure.

How in the world would this be an unpopular take? I haven't heard from a single college football fan that's happy about it. It's the disaster we all knew it would be, and it's only going to get worse.

Pay attention in class Digital.
Signed Max Brown from Ok. In their first class. The 23 class is far from over so basically chill till you know the facts.

To me the only way NIL works is that you can only get paid after you are on your team and then only when your NIL is used...kinda like radio stations paying to play a song.

Not a subscriber to the Athletica. Is there a message board there? If not, I might be very interested in subscribing.

BTW...care to paraphrase the rest of the article that can't be read?
Sorry. Came up in my Google feed and didn't ask me for a sign in. Probably one of those sites with a handful of freebies to try and sucker you in.

I’m all for the thinking that this class could turn out way better than I feel at present. I’m still hopeful. But I’ll also say this. When signing a lone QB in a class, if you’re giving the finger to Temple, Central Michigan and Washington in the process, that doesn’t necessarily qualify as not whiffing. Maybe Jack Miller turns out to be a good target, maybe even both of them. But his point is still valid. It just doesn’t mean we can’t recover and get someone else.

There’s no way to stop a Golds Gym from agreeing with Rashada(for example) or his parents that they’ll feature him in a commercial and pay him once he’s a student. Even an actual booster can pull that off by directing things through an LLC as we saw last year. What you described is exactly what it was intended for, and what several here insisted it would remain. That’s just not practical in any respect.

Gotta have some faith , remember Shane Matthews was 5th or 6th team, Trask was a two star and Chris Doering was a walk on.
Some idiot was just on Finebaum calling Napier a total disaster. What good can come of putting negative vibes out there at this point.

Totally agree with that. I’d be shocked if that’s an actual Gator saying that. My description would be that he has said all of the right things and has a lot of great ideas. What he may be seeing is that some of those things are harder to implement than expected. But there has been plenty of good thus far.

On the players, I won’t focus on outliers so much, because that’s been the argument the last two stiffs. It will when is games but also get us slaughtered at times as well. I don’t think for a second he feels that he doesn’t need a lead talent. It’s just a matter of learning it, which we are working on.

Let's just agree to disagree. It will be interesting to see how many top recruits Caspino gets big deals for vs how many top recruits GC/GG get by playing it safe.
What are we disagreeing on? I think we are aggressively agreeing with each other. Caspino is a slimeball making these public comments so that he attracts clients. Both Ruiz and Heitner replied to that tweet saying they haven't talked to him nor was what he was saying was accurate. Caspino is Rashada's agent. Florida is playing by the rules and its clear that Miami isn't. Miami is landing some recruits and we are not. So again, what are we disagreeing about other than Saban never said aTm cheated and its obvious Miami is breaking the Florida law?

Not entirely true. Its only June yet we did miss on Rashada. Im actually pretty excited what our offense will look like this year seeing how we do have a stud at QB, should have an improved OL and a good stable of RBs.
