You’re right. I was thinking it was about a year and half. I remember all the hand ringing the summer of 2005 because he was struggling on the trail. Tebow signed in December. He was the catalyst. Harvin shortly after and then Spikes in January.

Staffing...very similar to Bama
Heavy off field support
Multiple position coaches...individual attention
He knows HS coaching...he relates to HS coaches
Very detailed...
He got UL players into the NFL...No small achievement
He's likeable
High energy...we have not seen this since Pell...another builder
NOLA I'll even add a few to your good list..

He earning and working for his check.
Building a lost relationship with the HS Coaches
Appears to be rebuilding both sides of the trenches. We had been left in such an OL lack of depth and misses.
Taking care of and actually feeding our players rather than giving them chicken nuggets.
He'll take full advantage of the new facility.
He's not Mullenchampsharkhumper.

I agree with your list. I’ll add his attention to the culture of the team. Maybe 80%(?) of new coaches will have a honeymoon period where they are able to make all things new and hopeful, especially when coming after a fired coach/implosion. (Mullen started out with all that. But he couldn’t sustain it, couldn’t build on it, couldn’t make necessary changes, etc. Meyer was superb at that for several years then imploded when he cracked under pressure and his team culture failed.)

BN has taken major steps in the right direction and his approach looks sustainable in philosophy and practical application. Sustained excellence requires maintenance of that team culture. He learned that from Dabo and Saban. Those are two excellent examples to fuse.

The 2006 class was #2 overall and #1 in average player rating. It included Tebow, Harvin &. Spikes. Most of the rest were pedestrian to mistakes (Markih Anderson & Jamar Hornsby), but some solid pieces emerged like Marcus Gilbert.

USC’s #1 class was led by guys I don’t even recognize their names except for 4* Emmanuel Moooooody.

Just chiming in on this point. There is some truth to both statements. Meyer didn’t necessarily struggle in that first class early on. But the heavy hitters almost all came toward the end, and the games did help(ut and fsu were big weekends). Maybe it was a lack of connection to the SE, maybe it was the performance improvement on the field, and/or maybe it was that the big names wanted to wait until the end. Given the early period, I’m not sure how that would play out now. We are basically in the September of that period. So as Theo said above, we had pieces in place but not the stars at that time. Even Hornsby(who was great just a knucklehead) was a late addition. Cooper, James, Fayson and I think Cunningham as well. OVs, spring games and camps are fine. But actual game days, even losses if they’re great environments, can’t be replicated.

The 2012 class is a great example of this. We won 6 games in 2011, and only 1 big win at home(ut). We got blown out by Alabama, Lsu, and fsu, and lost to uga usce. But the environments of Ala and fsu were awesome and it was a big part of that class.
