The Atlanta Falcons apologized last week for an inappropriate homophobic question asked to a player at the NFL Combine.
The coach who asked the question was former Florida player Marquand Manuel. Manuel reportedly asked Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple if he "liked men."
Manuel and Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn, who was Florida's defensive coordinator from 2011-12, issued statements apologizing for the incident on Monday.
"I take full responsibility for the inappropriate question I asked at the Combine," Manuel said. "It was wrong and I apologize to Eli Apple, Mr. (Arthur) Blank, the entire Falcons organization, my family, and our Falcons fans for my insensitivity.
"I understand it was inappropriate and the offense people have taken to it. I have had an individual counseling session on social responsibility today, and was part of a staff session as well, and found it very valuable in learning from this situation. Moving forward, I will become a better man by going through all of this."
Manuel played at Florida from 1998-01, where he was a four-year SEC Academic Honor Roll member. He later spent the 2011 season at Florida with Quinn as a coaching intern before moving to the NFL as an assistant.
Currently Manuel is the secondary coach and a senior defensive assistant for the Falcons.
