Yeah, not my experience- at all. They are fine as long as their legacy is protected. If they feel like it is threatened they can get petty - even when the work is charitable.

Did he retire? You aren't using all the facts to use in forming an opinion about logic. Why is he still hanging around the program in an official capacity? Furthermore, you don't work a job for as long as he did, then step down but still keep an office, and NOT exert influence.

Yes he retired and is now Emeritus Athletics Director... which basically means "retired". Is it possible he is exerting influence... of course... do I think he is preventing the hire that Striclin wants from happening... no.

I really don't think he is influencing at that level... I know a lot of people hate the guy for making bad decisions, but to get in the way of your replacements first major coaching hire would really look bad. I'm not saying he agrees with the hire.. I'm just saying I don't think he is blocking it. I think it is more likely the assistants thing that is out there or overall negotiations... or maybe we aren't really trying to hire him at all (although I find that very very unlikely at this point)

I am not saying that it is one way or another at the level you seem to want to go. Everything you wrote there is pure speculation of what if scenarios to make you feel good about what you see as a rumored truth. The fact of the matter is, he has an office at the UAA after retiring. If he wan't inserting influence he wouldn't be there. Anything beyond that is heresay.

What’s defined as football operations? Is this another swipe at SOS? Look, I love Spurrier as much as the next guy, but if we get Chip, I don’t see him trying to get involved with helping the offense the same way he was with Butters and Nuss. I think that’s much ado about nothing.
