Might be best to shut this down. Opinions are disparate and hardened.

Let me go on record here about our QB situation. If you line up at QB for Fla. while Dan M is coach I am confident he made a good choice. Looks like he did a great job this year with what he had ALL over the field. Franks has something. He is tapping into his strengths now. He didnt come close to losing that game yesterday. He made some damned good plays that helped us win. He has come a thousand miles since last year. I even heard he was crying after the game with the realization of how far he and the team had come. FWIW anytime I read him being denigrated in here till next year I will respond............like I always do about players on my team.

FF is no doubt a great Gator, but it remains to be seen if he's the best quarterback for this team going forward. It's as simple as that.

BS you did. At least be honest about that part of it.

Ox, my friend. Do as I did... reread the thread. Look at all my intial responses. While each was supportive of Franks I repeatedly agreed that EJ was special and had a good chance to earn the job. I even stated that if he did FF would be the best backup in the SEC. EJ is a favorite of mine and had been from day 1. You ...and only you...start the bashing with your BS that he hates us, would spit on me and is scum.

I don’t bash coaches or players. I don’t namecall. Never have. I give MY opinion and will defend it when challenged. To me it’s all good.

Pumpers unite. I’m with you Coach.

Franks was emotional and crying during the trophey presentation. He appreciates his coaches and teammates for all they did for him. The culture change here is phenomenal.

The one attribute that EJ can't overcome is that Frank's is 6'6 @ 240 lbs. If Frank's starts to willingly run angry it could open other options for him to improve his overall game. I think EJ has the potential to be a starter and the tools but, FF has the game experience. FF is the starter w EJ playing a much larger role next season.

6-6 is advantageous in a dropback offense, but so much in a read option.

You want a guy with decent height, a strong build, mobile, an arm, a mobile mind and able to make plays.

6'6 240 is also a run your a$$ over and fall forward frame when we need 3 yds too!

That tall allows tacklers to get underneath. It's actually a disadvantage.

Tell that to Cam Newton

Give me his passing stats.
What do they matter? You said tall qb's can't be runners. I'll even go further and say look at derrick Henry he's 6'4" and won the Heisman.

T, no need. Here's the point. Newton was a prolific passer in 2010. Franks is nowhere near that. Newton was also an elusive runner. Franks isn't.

In short yardage, either would have been at a disadvantage running into a defensive line at that height. Unless they could leap the line.

Simple fact. Not as tall guys are better in that situation. It's all about physical leverage.

Give me an effective runner at QB over total yards anyday. If our QB has 8-10 carries a game and half of those pick up 1st downs I'm ok with that.....just enough to make the defense have to respect it and extend drives when needed. I want a balanced offense and for the first time in 10 years we have the pieces to make it happen.

As far as height goes FF does not process his reads as quick as most would like but he also uses his height in the shotgun to see his 1st read and zip some lasers. If he ever gets a little more touch on long balls his passing numbers will increase significantly.

All this said if Jones outperforms him then so be it but I want to make sure that's the case before anointing Jones the starting job only to have it cost us a couple games before realizing it was a bad move.

It is hard to coach size. Ask any basketball coach.
Crete the voice of reason and civility.........:faint:....;)
Well for the first time in a good long while I'll trust the coaches. Going into this season I saw no way we were winning more than 6-7 games based on the product from previous years. Mullen truly made Chicken salad from what I thought was Chicken sh!t….and that was based a lot on the play of FF.

If you ask me honestly at this point I still can't convince myself that FF can lead us to a SEC Championship but I also base that on other weaknesses on the team....one more year to shake off the funk I believe but I believe a lot more in the process now. Jones seems like a good kid I just think another year of practice and getting decent coaching will help him more especially now that most fans expectations will be through the ceiling...

@GatorDave_SEC: Franks ended the season by not throwing a single interception the last five games of the season on 119 attempts.
