@oliviagranaiola: Update: Just spoke to Moore. He tells me he thinks David Turner as Florida’s new DL coach is “great!!!” Says he’s “very familiar” with Turner from when he was at Mississippi State and thinks Turner is a “great fit for Mullen’s system.” @InsideTheGators

I lost track... are we still dangling our toes off the ledge over one recruit?

Just a FYI = researchers verified that the speed (timed) of an athlete is peaked when he comes out of high school. So, you're gonna get less with putting on of non-run muscles and weight.

AR told me he would had better times but the metronome distracted him.
I've never been particularly interested in 40 times especially because the 4.3/4.4 guys are usually not particularly good at playing football, and especially because their speed only matters to me if it's timed wearing pads and if they play fast on a football field.

Track speed doesn't mean spit.

It means something, but football speed means more. They two are probably pretty highly correlated.

As I remember Emmitt Smith was listed as running a 4.6 coming out of high school. Those were the days of lots of skill guys claiming 4.3 40s and was why one analyst famously doubted him as a prospect. Well Smith did pretty well at UF and then went to the combine and ran a 4.6 becoming one of the few guys to actually run his reported time at the combine. Then Smith went in the NFL and essentially was never caught from behind. So I suspect Smith was just one of those guys with better football speed than track speed.

Some of the difference can be how well you adapte to running pads. Some of it can be how quickly you recognize where to run. Some of it can be acceleration which is why the NFL also times the 10 yard split. Some of it can be ability to run on less than perfect surfaces. I am sure there are other reasons too.

No, but we have sure notice that instead of landing 6-8 DTs and SDEs in this class and the last, we have landed 1 DT and 0 SDEs.

You can pretend that means nothing but it doesnt change the truth.

Sadly with the new early signing period, there is just not that much to focus on heading into the old February signing day. So the few prospect out there get a lot of discussion though as you suggest in the long run will not decide how next season goes or how the program does in the next half decade.

I think there were hints all along that SD was really Muschamp. Worry about your own program and your alma mater. I know you already have two DTs and three DEs, but no thanks on your recruiting advice for UF to sign 6 to 8 guys for at most 3 positions. We all saw how that worked out when you had the job here.

Work on getting Sorrell to sign and qualified. Leave UF alone, I don't care that you are still getting a check from UF.

It's pretty simple you twatwaffle, sign 22ish players each year, one each for the 11 positions.

Signing nothing but undersized Rushbackers and forcing to play them inside is EXACTLY what your boy Chimp did.

Part of it is you're hardly ever running 40 yards straight line in football. Usually rendering a 40 yard dash irrelevant. Honestly, cones and ladder drills give you a more realistic view of a players' small area, quick twitch ability.

Had to give a like for "twatwaffle" - never heard it before.

That wasn’t really what I was poking at, but yeah we need DTs.

Some of the difference is also some players being really stiff when it comes to making cuts etc. Herschel Walker just missed making the 4x100 meter US relay team if I remember correctly but he was very stiff when running with a football. He may have smoked Percy Harvin in a straight 100 yard dash but definitely didn't have the same football speed.

Some of you guys put way too much stock in 40 times. Seriously, it's retarded.
